Her Bumble date stole the movie candy she'd saved for her brother, then insisted on splitting dinner. His TikTok exposed the red flag she'd missed

About four years ago, Kat (@kat.theestallion), a beauty and fashion content creator, was only a teenager when she trusted a guy from Bumble to go on a date. Well, that proved to be the biggest blunder of her life, as what she assumed to be a romantic movie date quickly unraveled into a chaotic masterclass in bad romance. Kat was already having a tough time dealing with his bad breath and terrible hygiene when her date tried to steal the candy she'd bought for her brother. Despite a horrible first date, she continued talking to him until a casual scroll through his TikTok comment section led Kat to his double life. The first part of Kat's video series on the incident, shared on 16 July, has received over 112,000 views. 

A date gone wrong

The first red flag that Kat ignored was her date arriving 45 minutes late, dressed in the same outfit as the previous day. Unfortunately, that was just the tip of the iceberg. That's because, upon opening his car door, Kat was greeted by what she described as a "sea of trash." Moreover, Kat recalled how her date's vehicle didn't even have speakers, which was just another turn-off for her. To top it all off, Kat explained that she was hit with a visceral smell of dental decay, making the drive even more unbearable. Since they were already late, they missed half of the movie. But without making a scene, Kat tried to enjoy the rest of the date. But things went downhill when she bought some chocolates for her brother, and the man finished them all.

He lost her at 'me money'

Even though her patience was running thin, Kat agreed to get food with her date near the theater. They headed to a nearby Chick-fil-A, where the cashier asked if they wanted the bill together or separated. Instead of being a gentleman, the man said he only had "me money right now," refusing to cover her food. Although he claimed he was broke, he ordered himself a deluxe meal, leaving Kat humiliated. 

After finishing their food, the two got back into the car, where things started to get even weirder. That's because the man started to give off an awkward hookup vibe. Sensing her discomfort, Kat's cousin pulled up with friends, dramatically out of nowhere, claiming her aunt was in the hospital. That was enough for Kat to escape, leaving behind her date, who angrily called her a "flop" as she left.

Plot twist: He was taken

The surprises weren't over just yet, as weeks later the guy claimed he was going on a family trip to North Carolina with zero cell reception. He returned with no photos, raising Kat's suspicions. But things got dirty when, while browsing through TikTok, Kat spotted a video involving her date and checked a commenter's profile. She discovered he had a long-distance boyfriend the entire time. The "Family trip" was actually just a cover-up while his partner stayed at his house for two weeks. 

Determined to expose this guy, Kat directly messaged his partner with proof. Following this, the partner confirmed the timelines and vented about betrayal. Nonetheless, Kat made sure to get the last word in before blocking him across social media and officially ending her dating experience ever. That said, Kat's situation reflects broader national trends surrounding deception in relationships. 

Unpacking infidelity

While what Kat explained might be shocking to many, 1 in 3 Americans admit to cheating on a partner at least once, with 83% defining sending suggestive online messages and 80% identifying lying about who you spend time with as forms of infidelity, according to a survey by YouGov. Furthermore, the study reveals that over half of Americans in monogamous relationships (54%) report being cheated on physically, emotionally, or both. These figures highlight how common cheating has become in recent times. 

'No second chances'

Regardless, the people in the comments were not having any of it. For instance, @rosekin_ wrote, "I would've Ubered home from the movies and DoorDashed my food." At the same time, @karen.winkdish noted, "You are beautiful, so make sure you take care of yourself and wait for someone who treats you well forever." @kemberlynoel_ shared, "The craziest part about this story is that you continued talking to him after the first date."
