'They remember me as the accidental guest who showed up...'

A person (u/bkz_sehil) invited to a friend's BBQ accidentally attended the wrong gathering. But guess what? They enjoyed every bit of the party, and in fact, they got a new family for a lifetime. The person posted the story on Reddit on November 13. So far, the post has received 2.4k upvotes on Reddit.

The author's friend, Federico, had invited them to a family BBQ. The author was exhausted because of work, but they still agreed to attend the party. It was a happening BBQ; people were busy tossing frisbees, kids were relishing popsicles, and the star of the party was an adorable golden retriever. "Someone waves at me and hands me a Coke, saying, 'Glad you made it, buddy!' I take it, thinking, Wow, Federico's family really knows how to treat friends." The author even helped flip burgers on the grill and found company in a man who was constantly giving them tips. They also met an old lady who called them "sweetheart" and asked them about their job. "Everything feels super normal. I even helped set up some chairs and hand out napkins. After, like, 20 minutes, a little girl hands me a plate of food and says, 'You’re my favorite new uncle!' I chuckle awkwardly and play along. I’m genuinely starting to enjoy myself," they wrote. The author was busy enjoying the party when Federico texted them asking where they were.
That time I accidentally joined a random family’s BBQ and didn’t realize for 40 minutes

The author replied, "At the park by the lake, chilling with your family." However, they realized they had crashed the wrong BBQ. "I freeze. I look around. Everyone’s smiling at me, waving, inviting me to try the potato salad. Then it hits me, I have no idea who these people are," the author wrote. They immediately apologized, but the family ended up laughing at the confusion. "Wrong? Nah, you fit the vibe. Stay!" one of the dads says," they recalled. For the next 20 minutes, the author spent time with the family, enjoying the party. Later, they went to Federico's actual BBQ and told him the entire goof-up. "He laughs so hard he almost falls off his chair. Every time I see Federico now, he just goes, 'Remember the time you were kidnapped by strangers at a BBQ?'" they wrote. The author also mentioned that they occasionally get tagged in photos from the other family's annual picnic. "They remember me as the accidental guest who showed up, helped with the grill, and stayed like he was supposed to be there," they added.

I hope you keep in touch with them all!" u/nicetryatausername shared, "I and a few coworkers accidentally crashed a company's Christmas party that was being held in a Canadian hotel bar/restaurant. We were just sailing along, drinking, wondering why there was a buffet, and then we were told to enjoy it. It was hours and many free drinks and food later that we realized what we’d done. We found the company’s owner and apologized profusely. He waved it off jovially and told us to stay."

After beers and a social hour, we all sat down to eat at a long table that stretched from the dining room out the hallway and into the living room. About two forkfuls into eating, one guy in the middle of the table says, 'I think I'm at the wrong house!' It turns out he was supposed to attend a Bar Mitzvah celebration that was occurring two houses down at the same time. It was also a potluck. He jumped up and ran out the door, leaving his food contribution behind. We roared with laughter."
