Sometimes, adults get caught up in the inconsequential details that hold us back from truly seeing and caring for each other. But kids, thankfully, aren't like that. They're yet to learn all the social evils of our world as it stands today—including racism. When Britney Tankersley's son Myles approached her about how his school was holding an event called "Twin Day," and how he looked exactly like one of his friends, she wasn't prepared for exactly how adorable the twinning duo was. In a Facebook post, she revealed how touched she was by her son's decision to twin with his friend. Why was it so moving, you ask? Myles is white, while his best friend is Black. Goodbye, racism.
In her post, Britney shared what it was like to get her son and his best friend matching outfits and seeing a photo his teacher had sent her from Twin Day. She stated, "Late last night, Myles went on and on about how he had to be twins with a boy in his class for Twin Day because they look exactly the same - same eyes, same hair. He was adamant that they were identical. So after the kids went to bed, I headed to Walmart at 9 pm to get matching outfits. Their teacher sent me this picture today. My heart melted. Obviously two very different children, but Myles didn’t see that. Wouldn’t the world be such a better place if we could all view it through the eyes of a couple [of] five-year-olds?" The photo displays the two children smiling, both wearing matching red plaid shirts and black pants.
Like Britney, others too were moved by Myles and his innocent thoughts. Since it was first uploaded, the post has garnered over 509,000 reactions and 51,000 comments. It has also been shared over 269,000 times. The comments section was filled with positive notes for the boys. Mike O'Brien commented, "Hope for our future! Boys, may you always stay ‘twins.'" Others appreciated Britney's parenting, such as Celeste Tranguch Fox, who wrote, "Britney, you are raising a boy with a beautiful soul and a loving heart. God bless you both. Look at the smiles on those boys!" Some users even shared their own stories about similar incidents. Of course, there will come a time when Myles and his best friend learn about racism and the realities of the world around them, but for right now, this was the absolute sweetest moment of innocence and friendship ever.
