Together We Rise, a nonprofit organization, is changing the negative perceptions surrounding foster kids and the process of adoption one heartwarming picture at a time. The sweet pictures, posted on their Instagram account showing foster kids on the day they were adopted into their 'forever families,' standing next to signs showing how much time they spent in foster care before being adopted. The images are showing adoption in a new light. "There are many negative stereotypes surrounding kids in foster care, but they are just children who want loving families — and there are families out there fighting for them," said Gianna Dahlia, TWR Executive Director, reported The Huffington Post. "We just want to inspire those families either going through the process or considering the adoption process that it can be done and it is worth it."
Together We Rise helps to provide resources to foster kids to improve their lives. The nonprofit provides kids with school supplies, bicycles, educational programs, and college scholarships among other things. It also shares crucial information about fostering and adopting kids, including raising awareness on the procedures through volunteers and foster parents. "Our vision is to improve the lives of children in foster care, who often find themselves forgotten and neglected by the public. We collaborate with individuals, companies, and community partners to bring resources to foster youth and use service-learning activities to educate volunteers on issues surrounding the foster care system," reads a statement on their website.
Sharing foster care images are one of its major initiatives and has helped change people's perception of fostering and adopting kids. "With so much negative news surrounding foster care we just want to highlight the positive with amazing adoptions that are happening every day," said Dahlia.
