A family's Thanksgiving gathering took on a theatrical flair when a young woman launched into a spontaneous 'Wicked' performance.
This year’s Thanksgiving became extra special for “Wicked” superfans with the release of the highly anticipated musical fantasy film directed by Jon M. Chu and starring the likes of Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Jonathan Bailey and Michelle Yeoh. While audiences celebrated the magic of the Broadway hit brought to the screen, one family channeled the musical’s spirit right at home during their Thanksgiving gathering. Content creator Sarah Sachi—who goes by @ver_sachi99 on TikTok—shared how their holiday gathering turned into a theatrical affair, with her siblings and mom joining her in an impromptu and entertaining performance inspired by "Wicked."
In a viral video with over 1.2 million views, Sachi was seen performing and lip-syncing to what appeared to be "Defying Gravity" from the musical. As she recreated iconic moves from the song, her siblings joined in, adding to the fun. Her mom burst into laughter upon seeing Sachi belting out the track at the top of her lungs while striking comical poses and standing on the couch. “Pick her up!” yelled her brother as the siblings joined forces, lifting Sachi into the air.
Much like “Wicked’s” iconic character, Elphaba, Sachi embraced the “magical" flight scene in her performance. “Everyone understood the assignment,” she wrote in the caption, praising her family’s efforts. After being lifted into the air, Sachi landed and ran toward the entrance of her house, continuing her dramatic performance. Her mom added the perfect touch of laughter, while her siblings clearly enjoyed the comedic recreation of the fantasy film. The fun escalated as Sachi climbed onto the table, taking her performance to new heights.
Sachi then opened her arms like the "Wicked Witch of the West," while her siblings knelt in awe. One rolled on the floor, laughing out loud, while another ran into the frame to hand her a makeshift cape. After Sachi put on the cape-cum-sweater, her sister appeared with a broomstick in hand. Meanwhile, Sachi’s mom, seated near the camera, couldn’t contain her laughter, fully enjoying the hilarious moment.
The one-minute-twenty-second video ended on a high note, leaving viewers awestruck by the captivating performance. The effortless act garnered countless reactions, with people praising the family's perfect coordination. @val_wiggin remarked, “I love how it began with one girl simply enjoying herself and soon transformed into a full production with a cast, crew and props.” @azariadickson3 added, “Them doing the moves to emulate her getting higher took me out. That is choreography!” @loveisforthenerds chimed in, “It is proof that the crew is the heart and soul of every performance.”
“The dramatic flapping of ‘the cape’ towards the end—oh my gosh, the whole performance was absolutely perfect!” @taralunastar added. “This is ‘we have Wicked at home,’ and I’m here for it! Also, super jealous because my sons would never pick me up and spin me around while singing ‘Defying Gravity’. I told them they don’t love me,” @dani_cole87 shared. “The fact that the performance never faltered, even as the crew worked to figure things out, is truly impressive,” @guatemalawashington noted.
