Texas woman regaled neighbor with surprise 'goose costumes' until a mystery parcel broke her heart

Emily Jean (@emily_jean21) once found an anonymous package at her doorstep in Texas. At first, she was a bit confused; later, she realized her elderly neighbor, whom she'd been surprising with handmade little goose outfits, had sent it to her after finding out her address. However, Jean's excitement turned into tears when she read the letter inside. She posted the video on February 18, which, now, has over 6 million views on TikTok.
Jean had been anonymously dropping off the goose outfits along with heartfelt notes at her neighbor's doorstep. He happened to have a beautiful concrete goose standing tall on his porch. It had become a bit of an inside joke between the two. One day, a package landed on Jean's doorstep. It was from the neighbor's daughter who had scrounged around for Jean's address in order to send her a parcel. When she opened it, the letter inside instantly broke her heart. Seconds into reading the note, Jean screamed at the top of her voice when she realized her old neighbor had passed away. In fact, Jean learned that his daughter had written the letter as a gesture of gratitude for making her father's last days memorable. "We wanted to let you know that the goose owner passed away earlier this month. Dad was so tickled by your gesture to clothe the goose. You brought joy to the last couple of months of his life. He asked the grandkids to dress the goose after you made each delivery, and he would check the goose each time he left the house, making sure it had not blown away," the letter read.
His daughter explained that the concrete porch goose had been her mom's, who kept it well-dressed until she died in 2018. "Many of the outfits were handmade. We even had a couple of photo shoots, as you can see. The goose even had a special outfit for weddings and first communions. Soon, the goose will be returning to its original home in Waldo," she continued. Along with the letter, the neighbor's daughter had sent a gooseberry cookbook from her mom's collection and a picture of the porch goose wearing an adorable outfit. Jean gasped as she realized that her elderly neighbor had passed away on the same day as her own grandma.
In March 2025, a survey by the Pew Research Center found that just a handful of Americans maintain any bond with their neighbors. In fact, they found that only about a quarter of U.S. adults (26%) knew all or most of their neighbors. Moreover, the same survey found that only 44% trust all or most of their neighbors, while 9% don't trust anyone in their neighborhood. It alone reveals that in a world where people hardly find time to connect with neighbors, Jean found a meaningful bond that she will now cherish forever.
