Sometimes, a small act of kindness can completely turn someone's day around. That’s exactly what happened when a teenage server went out of his way to return an envelope full of money that a customer had accidentally left behind. The customer, Lola, was convinced she had lost it for good—until the honest young server stepped in. She later shared her story with NewsChannel5, explaining how the teen’s good deed completely shifted her difficult day.

Lola had gone out for dinner with her husband and daughter at a restaurant in Lebanon, Tennessee, hoping to unwind after a rough day at work. But the evening took a turn when she realized she had misplaced an envelope filled with cash. "I wasn't having the best day at work. My mind was all jumbled up," she admitted. Losing the money felt like the final straw, and panic quickly set in. However, to her astonishment, a teen server named Nate Affourtit had spotted the envelope and held onto it, ensuring it was returned to its rightful owner. “He was a light,” Lola said, expressing her deep gratitude for his honesty and kindness. Her heart sank when she first realized the money was missing—but thanks to Affourtit, it didn't stay that way for long.

"We didn't know what we were going to do," the woman admitted as she had previously checked the car, her purse and her baby's bag. Finally, she called up the restaurant but had lost all hope of finding her money by then. However, 18-year-old Affourtit—who had served them that day—had found the money and kept it safe to return it to the family. The teenager explained to the woman where he had found the money and decided to report it. "I just saw it on the ground and I was like surprised, that nobody took it by then," he explained. "It was the exact same envelope, completely untouched and I was so shocked," added Lola. "Wow, someone who had the opportunity to, when no one was looking, to take this and do whatever with it, they came forward and that was very sweet."

"For us, that money is a big deal," Lola revealed. "I didn’t think about stealing it. It’s just, like, I believe that if you do something wrong, wrong can come to you," Affourtit, shared. The boy was grateful that his parents had given him values that pushed him to make the right decision. "They have always taught me to be a light in the dark these days," he added. The woman met with Affourtit and personally thanked him for helping her.

The woman promised that her family would become regulars at the restaurant to support Affourtit, who works five days a week, as per 29 News. The teen is saving for college and a car and could have easily used the money but chose to return it instead.
