When the customer behaved rudely to them, the teenager stood up for herself and another young girl on the staff. 'We don't need your business,' she firmly said.
Dealing with entitled customers rationally is a valuable skill and this 17-year-old has certainly aced that. The teenager is getting applauded on the internet for her remarkable way of dealing with a rude and angry customer. The incident occurred at a store called Kekes Snow Balls—that goes by @kekessnowballs on TikTok—based in Willis, Texas. A woman arrived at the shop and bought a snowball from the store and asked if she could prepay $6 for another snowball so her daughter could come up to the shop and have one when she wanted to.
However, shifts changed and people working when the woman paid were not working when the daughter showed up, so she had to return empty-handed. Later, things took an ugly turn, as the mom showed up at the store again and started getting mad at the teenage girl working at the counter. The footage from the security camera showed the woman confronting the teen as she said, "I was up here two days ago, and I put a $6 on my account on my order and paid for it." She added, "I said, if my daughter comes up here, can she come get her a snow cone? Y'all said yes."
The enraged woman expressed, "She comes all the way up here, you tell her no. I need my $6 back." The girl at the counter was a little taken aback and asked the woman what her number was. "I came up here by myself and I paid for a snow cone plus six extra dollars so when she wanted to snow cone, she could come up here and get it," the customer curtly replied. "When my daughter came up here and said, my name is... Y'all didn't give her the snow cone." At that moment, an older teenager at the store stepped in and handed the woman her six dollars from the cash counter. However, the woman did not take it nicely when a sign fell as the girl closed the counter. She returned to call her a derogatory term.
The 17-year-old had closed the counter, but she opened it again and firmly told the woman, "Ma'am, please don't act like that. You're a grown woman. I'm 17. Get out of here. Don't come back. We don't need your business." The video was uploaded by the shop to highlight how the staff are treated in multiple instances and how there is a pressing need to change that. "I am on a mission to improve how we handle situations as adults. Today at Keke's Snow Balls, one of our sweetest employees was called a derogatory name by a customer," the caption read.
"I am proud of our supervisor's handling of the situation. While businesses often face complaints, it's rare to highlight the mistreatment of staff. We must strive for better behavior and respect in all interactions," it added. The company took permission from the girl's parents to show their faces. People took to the comments to applaud the girl. @krystle_b28 wrote, "She's like, ma'am get your $6 and get on somewhere. Love to see it!" @jcarpinelli remarked, "The way she listened to the whole conversation while multitasking in the back. Great leader." @bkay270 noted, "She's amazing. Very mature for her age and handled it extremely well. Perfect response!"
