Teen adopts oldest cat to ensure it lives the best life in its last years: 'She gave the world to that cat'

Kids who love animals usually don’t think too much about their age, size, and even looks when looking to adopt them as pets. When pet owner Magnolia Jean (@mycrazylife707) took her 13-year-old daughter, Alana, to an animal shelter to adopt a kitten, the teenager chose the “oldest cat” there. Jean has shared a series of TikTok videos showing the “incredible bond” between her daughter and this cat they named Nora.

In one video posted in March 2024, Jean showed the scene of Alana and Nora sitting beside a fireplace. Papers and pens were scattered around, which the teenager used to do her homework. Meanwhile, the camera captured Nora looking intently at the papers as if reading them with the teenager. At this time, the girl and Nora were “16 and 17 years old,” respectively, as Jean described in the video’s overlay text.

When people requested more videos of the duo, Jean posted another TikTok some days later. This one displayed Alana and Nora sitting at the same spot, as shown in the previous video. This time, they were playing with a pen. The girl would skid the pen towards Nora, and Nora would skid it back to her.

Seeing the popularity of these clips, Jean, who runs a clothing boutique business, recently posted yet another TikTok featuring the compilation of moments between her daughter and Nora and some stunning solo shots of Nora. In addition to the fireplace scene, the video featured her daughter cuddling Nora in a blanket.

Other clips showed Alana affectionately rubbing and kissing her head and pummelling Nora’s neck. “Nora and Alana became inseparable. My daughter took such good care of her senior cat,” Jean described in the video overlay.

At the end of the January 29, 2025 video, Jean revealed that Nora passed away a week ago at the age of 18. “Rest in peace, sweet old girl [2007 - 2024],” she said. In the video’s caption, she wrote, “Love has no limits - come back to her in your next life Nora.” More than 7,000 people commented on the video, expressing sadness and their views on pet love. “Someone once told me that you may not have got to spend the rest of your life with them, but they got to spend the rest of their life with you, and there’s beauty in that,” reflected @joerodriguez24. The video even attracted a sobbing emoji and a comment from the world’s leading payment card organization, @visa.

Noting Alana’s attentiveness towards Nora, @ellery said, “The fact that a teenager could make the decision to love and care for a senior cat speaks volumes about her character and how well you are raising her.” @carolmarieereads wrote, “What an amazing heart your girl has. I know she’s heartbroken, but she gave the world to that cat! Seniors are always overlooked.” Meanwhile, Jean commented that they also have another kitty named Doris, who is 15 years old.
