After Mr. Rowley supported her in her hour of need, Kayson Seamons initiated a fundraising campaign to support his retirement

Trigger Warning: This article contains themes of suicide that some readers may find distressing.
In December 2025, Kayson Seamons (@kaysha.seamons) received the most tragic news of her life. A detective confirmed that her kids' father had died by suicide. After arduous court battles and ten suicide attempts in the past three years, it wasn’t really unexpected. But knowing he was no longer alive left her devastated. At a time when everything seemed to be falling apart, her partner's third-grade teacher, Mr. Shane Rowley, serendipitously showed up to comfort her. On May 8, 2026, in a TikTok video, Seamons shared a clip from her house’s DoorCam footage, capturing how he came to support her during the most difficult time. The beautiful video has gone viral with over 14 million views on Seamons' page, with updates still pouring in.
@kaysha.seamons Edit: gofundme in B!o!!! Mr. Rowley is the world's greatest teacher showing up for anything for any child he's ever taught. Whether it's a graduation a birthday a funeral or a farewell he is always there. #grief #healing #suicideprevention #forever23 ♬ original sound - Judah Earl
With sorrow-filled eyes, Mr. Rowley knocked on Seamons's door, expecting to find her grieving the unimaginable loss. As expected, the moment she opened it, she immediately collapsed into his arms. "This is the sound of my baby daddy’s third-grade teacher showing up to check on my kids and me after my baby daddy unalived himself," Seamons confessed. While she kept crying, Mr. Rowley gently embraced her by brushing her head with his hands. "He has no idea what this hug means to me," the grieving woman confessed.

In the caption, Seamons shared insights about Mr. Rowley, calling him the world's "greatest" teacher. She also shared how he has always shown up for his students in good and bad times. "Whether it's a graduation, a birthday, a funeral, or a farewell, he is always there," Seamons wrote. Overwhelmed by Mr. Rowley's gesture, the single mom started a GoFundMe page to raise funds to support Mr. Rowley's retirement vacation. "He deserves so much in life, and I think a vacation to kick off his retirement with his wife would be the bare minimum of what he deserves," she wrote, honoring the retired teacher. As of May 27, 2026, the initiative has raised $2,567 for Mr. Rowley.

A 2022 survey across 26 American states found 32.1% of people surveyed said they felt lonely, while 24.1% reported a lack of social and emotional support. Notably, the prevalence of loneliness and lack of social and emotional support was the highest among the younger generations, those aged between 18 and 34 (43.3%). It means, in a world where nearly one in three Americans fights loneliness, kind people such as Mr. Rowley show up for his students in quiet, selfless ways. Perhaps it is his own kindness that is now paying off through the GoFundMe page. According to a meta-analysis published in the Journal of Social Psychology, this is called “reciprocal altruism.” According to this concept, which was derived after a survey of 74,378 people, individuals who are kind, prosocial, and regularly help others are more likely to receive social and emotional support in return.

Meanwhile, in the comments, many viewers recognized Mr. Rowley as a kind man who shows up for anyone and everyone in need. For instance, @joshgonz32 said, "He shows up for everyone, but I question myself if anyone shows up for him." Similarly, @sarah.halbfell recounted, "He was my third-grade teacher, too. The day my mom passed, he was at my house within a few hours. Truly the kindest man I know." @holland.maughan shared, "I worked with Shane Rowley for 6 years until he retired. He showed up to every student’s soccer game, wedding, high school graduation, and so much more! Thousands of events in his teaching career and even more now that he’s done. His retirement party was the biggest I’ve ever seen. He has the best soul. We love 'Shaners.'"
