Teacher explained why it's important to understand their background.
After parents, kids often seek emotional support from someone who can be their friend and family at the same time. More often than not, that someone is their teacher. While a teacher's role, at first, might be strictly confined to the pages of a textbook, over time, they seamlessly blend themselves into their students' lives, navigating these true companions through rough days. A teacher, Miss Klaudia Holt, who goes by @createloveandinspire on TikTok received an overwhelming response on social media after she shared a rather unpopular opinion about 'her way' of dealing with children during class hours. In a now-viral video, with 15 million views online, Klaudia revealed how she lets her students sleep during lessons.
She explained that she lets her students take a quick nap during lessons because she understands that they are tired for a reason. "We don't know what goes on at home. Kids can't learn if they are overly exhausted," the woman added. Young children are often subject to stressors we can't image, such as a fallout between parents, having to look after their sibling for long hours, lending a hand to run small errands for the family business — it is wrong to assume that all children have the same, innocent and worry-free childhood. As per a report by the National Library of Medicine, research says that students who are close to their educators exhibit higher levels of not only academic interest but also dedication, achievement, self-efficacy, and motivation. This explains why students who are fortunate enough to find supportive teachers are more confident and emotionally stronger than their peers.
Reacting to the video, @jules..violet suggested, "And if it becomes a habit of them doing it, teachers should check in on them IN PRIVATE, not in front of everyone, and definitely not scold them about it." @uncommonf commented, "I never understood teachers who yell at asleep kids; they're not bothering the class? If the kid decides that day they aren't up for learning, then that's their decision." @ch4umxo commented, "I love this perspective. I, as a student, however, don't really agree with the part, 'They are tired for a reason'." If it is a reasonable reason, then the teacher should let them, but if it is because they pulled an all-nighter for movies and stuff, then no. Sleeping in class is disrespectful and inappropriate in some cases." @trollmagnet_fan_getalife wrote, "I love this. There was a teacher in our school who sprayed water if you fell asleep."
@zoe.james7 revealed, "My algebra teacher used to let me do this. I always had my work completed before putting my head down. She told my parents about it, and this actually led to my chronic illness diagnosis." Similarly, @astasiasharae shared, "I never fell asleep in class until I was 7 weeks pregnant, and I had never gotten sleep, and I had morning nausea and threw up every morning for 14 weeks straight. My first-period teacher let me eat, and my second-period teacher let me take a nap after finishing my work. Thanks to them I was able to function!" @nicoleschiveley commented, "I actually love this so much. It’s never wrong to be empathetic. Good on you."
