Teacher explains why she believes a woman's standards in a relationship aren't too high with a story

In this age of digital dating, where people have access to everyone in the world and some are being praised for doing the least, a teacher from Korea tells us why we should not settle for less than what we deserve. In a video posted by Oksana –who goes by @thisisoksana_ on Instagram–she talks about an incident while teaching her students in Korea. It is the moment when she realizes one does not need to lower their standards for healthy relationships

She begins her video by saying, "Babe, your standards are not too high. They are just not trying hard enough." She then starts with her story about why she said that. She mentions that she used to teach English in Korea for about two years. At the beginning of each year, she would introduce herself to the class nicely since most of them had never met a foreigner before and would probably be slightly uncomfortable.

During those two years, one of the girls in her class asked Oksana when her birthday was. Since the teacher did not think much of it, she simply told the little girl her birthday. Oksana has also mentioned that her favorite animal was a giraffe twice in the two years she taught in Korea, most likely during her introduction. And what the little girl did with these pieces of information made her day. The little girl got Oksana a giraffe plushie keychain. Oksana said, "Yeah, an 11-year-old child remembered my favorite animal because I mentioned it one time a year for two years and then got me something."

Oksana mentions how the little girl needed to get her nothing and the keychain was a $5 gift at maximum. However, she now wants to be buried with it and take it to the afterlife. For Oksana, this 11-year-old remembered a tiny detail about something she mentioned once or twice during her tenure. She said, "So when people are out there telling you, 'Girl, your standards are too high' or your partner is saying, 'Oh, I'm not a mind reader.' They are saying that you should not even expect people to be as thoughtful as this 11-year-old child." She ended her video by saying, "Your standards are not too high - raise them higher."

Oksana's video went viral, garnering nearly 4 million views on the platform. People shared their own experiences in the comments section. @amerndehperndeh funnily said, "When my boyfriend doesn't compliment my outfit, but my 1st graders told me I looked like a princess, my hair was pretty and I smelled extra good today." @agui__sad said, "I hate putting extra effort into my makeup or hair and getting no comment about it. My grandma always asks me if he complimented me and I have to lie and say yes or she'll, understandably, hate him." @alypota145 shared a similar story and happily said, "I mentioned to my student that I liked her bunny keychain at the beginning of the year. At the end of the year, she gifted me a bigger version of the same bunny. She was 8."
