The prices of fast food in the United States of America are rising exponentially. The days of $1 cheeseburgers and fries appear to be long gone. In this day and age of rising costs, smart and savvy customers are turning to creative tactics to save money on their fast-food pleasures. Caleb Lennon–who goes by @caleb_lennon on TikTok–regularly shares hacks that help many on the platform. In a recently viral video, Lennon reveals a simple but efficient approach for lowering the cost of one of Taco Bell's most popular side meals: chips & cheese. The video has garnered over 109K views on the platform.

Lennon's video opens with a bag of chips and cheese. He then demonstrates how to save money while ordering chips and cheese from Taco Bell. The conventional way to get chips and cheese from the menu would cost people $2.29. Lennon, on the other hand, recommends ordering a side of chips and a side of cheese separately. He illustrates the whole process by presenting everything on the screen, which reveals that the individual purchase of chips ($.50) and cheese ($0.85) will cost $1.35. This simple swap saves you nearly half of the original cost. Many viewers on the platform found this trick intriguing.

Some TikTok users thanked Lennon for the money-saving suggestion. It will effectively cut costs without compromising their favorite menu items. However, not everyone had the same ease in following Lennon's directions. Some viewers had difficulty implementing his method through Taco Bell's app. Some users reported that in some areas, ordering cheese as a side dish alone was priced at $1. User @jasmine0014, for instance, commented, "Not even they raised the price of cheese to $1 now. Prices got raised on everything at the Taco Bell I go to, so I haven't had Taco Bell in months."

While the comments section contained a mix of praise and concerns about the hack, there was a prevalent sentiment shared by many: the increasing prices at Taco Bell. @ringering said, "This place used to be affordable. Now they price gouge their broke customers." Several users reminisced about a time when Taco Bell was known for its affordability, which has seemingly dwindled in recent years. @mrs_tiffyb introduced an alternative money-saving strategy, stating, "I don't like tomatoes, so I order a beef taco add sour cream, and it's cheaper than a taco supreme." Consumers are actively exploring ways to enjoy their favorite meals without emptying their pockets in a world where fast-food prices continue to rise.

@kelly8181 shared her tip and said, "I get the cheesy bean and rice burrito and add onions and red sauce (free). It comes out to $1 and some change and it's pretty filling." @theindomitablemass said, "If I have to nickel and dime for Taco Bell, then I'm gonna start nickel and diming for a loaded shotgun." @mattymelt42 added their view and said, "Cool, let me just go behind the counter and ring things up." @racecarlindsay chimed in and shared, "We don't even have that POS anymore. And prices went way up."
