Surgeon dad hailed as real-life 'Dr. Webber' after decking up to help daughter with unexpected task

Moms and dads can’t simply 'clock out' and this was the case for one doctor, who, after returning home from a day of surgeries, found himself assigned another unexpected task by his daughter.

Parenting is considered as serious a job as any other full-time professional role, requiring one to give constant emotional support to their kids in addition to being a disciplinarian when needed. Unlike other roles, moms and dads can’t simply "clock out," even when they’re exhausted. This was the case for one doctor, who, after returning home from a day of surgeries, found himself assigned another unexpected task by his daughter. Sydney Mitchell posted a video on her TikTok account (@jo.jpeg) of her father, Dr. Alfred Mitchell, detangling a delicate necklace with surgical precision.

In the widely circulated footage, Dr. Mitchell is seen untangling the necklace while still wearing his scrubs. The plastic surgeon mimics a jeweler’s precision, with acrylic lens magnifiers attached to his glasses. Dr. Mitchell took the job far too seriously, becoming completely absorbed in the task. Many also pointed out that he resembled an off-screen version of Dr. Richard Webber, a fictional character from the ABC medical drama "Grey's Anatomy."

“POV: You ask your surgeon dad to untangle a necklace,” the text overlay on the 11-second clip read. The Texas-based doctor has been hailed on social media since Sydney shared the amusing moment in their home. "He pulled out his loupes, and that's when I knew I had to start recording. The seriousness made it all the more comical to me and my sisters," Newsweek quoted the 29-year-old daughter.

Praising her father’s effort, Sydney captioned the video, “Very demure, very mindful.” This phrase has been inspired by a viral TikTok trend started by creator Jools Lebron in April earlier this year, describing people doing their jobs diligently, self-aware and confident in their surroundings, without being arrogant. “You would've thought he was performing another surgical procedure,” the surgeon’s daughter added.

Meanwhile, the video has garnered over 300,000 views and is still counting. Among the hundreds of comments, many expressed their obsession with the scene, comparing her dad to Dr. Richard Webber from “Grey's Anatomy.” While acknowledging that she didn’t fully understand why the video attracted so much attention, Sydney told the outlet, "I also think it blew up because in the healthcare space, it's not every day you see a Black surgeon who specializes in hand, wrist and microsurgery, cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery, and burn surgery."

In the comments section, @berrymorin joked, "Wait till you get the bill." Sydney replied, "I better get a friends and family discount." @lemonsqueezy1124 added, “My dad once fixed a hole in my favorite sweatshirt using actual suture thread,” referring to a tool used to tie blood vessels or sew damaged tissues together. “For a moment, I thought I was on 'Grey's Anatomy' TikTok. What are you doing, Dr. Webber?” echoed @happybehindthelens. “Wow, with the glasses and surgical cap, he really means business. Let me know the surgeon’s fee, facility fee, and anesthesia charges!” @rudythesockpuppet remarked. Sydney went on to heap praises on her father, expressing that he remains the most important person in her life.
