She came home to a smashed window and $150,000 gone. Then her eyes fell on a pair of sunglasses
A woman heard a bedroom door slam in a supposedly empty home. What she found inside sent her straight to the phone
Shortly before noon on May 26, a woman sensed a commotion on the 2600 block of Southwest 23rd Avenue in Miami’s Silver Bluff Estates neighborhood. A bedroom door had just slammed. When she turned to look within, she found a bedroom in disarray and a broken window. She immediately called the homeowner and said, “Danny, you’ve been robbed.” When the homeowners returned, they had to report to the police. Jewelry worth $150,000 had been stolen from their house. When the police arrived, they found a pair of sunglasses and a pry tool lying outside the broken window. Captured on the sunglasses were the fingerprints of a 37-year-old man named Quindy Janvier. They arrested the suspect and put him in jail, according to a July 17, 2026, report by WPLG Local 10.
Sunglasses evoke suspicion
Minutes before the burglary, the surveillance video had recorded Janvier riding an electric scooter in the area. Janvier, who lives in Miami-Dade’s Brownsville neighborhood, was then spotted running away from the same house’s yard, just before the burglary was reported. The police’s suspicion was aroused after the homeowners told them that the sunglasses fallen outside the window didn’t belong to them. A latent fingerprint test confirmed the suspicion.
Janvier is facing one count each of burglary, third-degree grand theft, and criminal mischief causing $1,000 or more in damage. The culprit is currently held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond is set at $77,500. In the meantime, the homeowners are terrified. This burglary will forever haunt them with fear and insecurity. While speaking with the news outlet, they said, “Possessions you replace, but it was an uninvited guest that came into a very special place. The crime really is the sense of security that was robbed from our family and children. Rebuilding that is not as easy as purchasing another piece of jewelry.”
Burglaries reinforce fear in the masses
According to the Statista Research Department, the nationwide burglary rate in the United States was 229.2 cases per 100,000 of the population. Interestingly though, burglaries in the U.S. fell by 16.1% between April 2025 and March 2026, according to the FBI's Crime Data Explorer. The decline was part of a broader fall in property crime, which dropped 12.1% during the same period. That said, a good security system or an intrusion detection system is one of the only ways for residents to protect themselves against such burglaries.
Criminals can never be too smart
The video unlocked a prevalent fear among the viewers. Many are enraged that crimes like these should be unforgivable, given how much terror they instil in the hearts of victims. @frankorobinson1540 commented, “Criminals are never smart.” @andrewthomson4488 declared, “Home robbery should carry life in prison. He needs to be locked up permanently.” On a lighthearted note, @class3nut remarked, "He looks like the monster from Arnold's movie, 'The Predator!'”
