The attitude of gratitude is one that really lights you up. This idea turned into a reality in a mesmerizing way thanks to the kids from a local school in Monroe, Ohio, per TODAY. In a clip shared by @monroe_local_schools on November 7, students got a chance to stop and think about something they’re grateful for. A mic placed in one of the corridors had one instruction on it — to share one good thing that happened. Students pitched in with simple yet heartwarming responses, and it’s the ideal reminder to find joy and gratitude in the little things.

Adam Marcum, head of communications for the Monroe Local School District, was the camera person behind the microphone, capturing the pleasant moments the students shared. His goal was simple — to bring to light the ordinary things that go unnoticed but deserve appreciation. "Once I finally put it all together and watched it for the first time, I found myself tearing up quite a bit. It really hit me,” he explained. And there was no reason why it wouldn’t, because gratitude is such a powerful thing that we often neglect. Philip Lazarus, associate professor of Psychology, and Rachel Ritchie, associate teaching professor of Psychology, at Florida International University, revealed how impactful it can be to remember the good and be grateful for it.

“Experiencing gratitude actually rewires the brain. It helps communication in neurological pathways. It’s been linked to improved sleep, relationship health and mood regulation,” Ritchie noted. Lazarus added that this habit of nurturing gratitude begins with small steps like noticing the good. “Gratitude can elevate our mindset. If we start acknowledging and appreciating all the good things in life, then we’re cultivating gratitude. It could be something as simple as, ‘It’s a beautiful Sunday morning and the sun is shining.’ It could be something really small,” he remarked.

Each of the kids who spoke on the mic reminded us of just that. Since the mic was placed in the main corridor, both junior and high schoolers stepped in with their bit. One cheerful chap said, “I woke up in time in the morning for school, so I didn’t miss the bus.” Another came in, twirling her hair and said, “Someone told me my hair looked really pretty today.” A student excitedly walked up to reveal, “There was a new girl at school today, and I think I made a new friend.” The responses kept pouring in, boosting that dopamine for all viewers. A senior noted, "I got a 100 on my German test today.” A duo remarked, “We went to pilates.” Another high schooler shared, "I got to drive a manual car for the first time!"

A handsome young man proudly revealed that he finally got a girlfriend. Another student was relieved to share that she was now able to get along with her sister. Yet another junior remarked, “I found my passion today and it’s wrestling.” Just looking at the instructions brought a smile to the kids’ faces because they were already thinking about all the good that had happened to them. “We see these kids every day but when you stop and actually listen to them — really listen — it reminds you what kind of hearts they have,” Adam remarked. The internet got the boost it needed from these humble and soothing responses. @hellotefi said, “This is the best video I've seen on the internet.” @sienna_doc wrote, “Absolutely CHEESING on the other side of the screen for these people!” @claireholt remarked, “I love this so much.”
