'I don’t think he really wanted to be a teacher if I’m being honest.'

What if teachers, instead of encouraging their students, start demotivating them to vent their own frustrations? The consequences would be too predictable! Students would either bunk their classes or develop a negative attitude towards learning. However, when one band teacher insulted a group of students for no real reason, they didn't lose their self-confidence; instead, they decided to serve the ultimate comeback by rickrolling him at the winter concert. One of those students (u/redditwherereddits2) posted the incident on Reddit on December 5.

Every year, students of "honors music classes" put on a concert for the teachers and parents. It is completely student-led, and teachers are oblivious to the songs that will be played in the concert. In fact, a senior is given the responsibility to approve the songs and ensure there is nothing inappropriate. Just before the concert, the band teacher, with a bit of an attitude problem, had insulted the group of students actively involved in organizing the event. "He has a short temper, and I don’t think he really wanted to be a teacher if I’m being honest. He got mad at us in class one day and blew up at us, saying stuff like how we were hopeless and had no talent (not true, in case you were wondering)," they explained.
The students felt humiliated and wanted revenge, so they decided to "rickroll" the audience. For those who aren't aware, rickrolling is a popular prank featuring the 1987 hit song "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley. The prank entails luring in viewers with an interesting video and suddenly cutting to Astley's song instead. The student incorporated this into their live performance. They began the concert with a typical band piece, only to stop the music midway. Just when everybody began staring at them, looking confused, the tenor sax began playing the famous Rickroll intro. "It was epic. The look on the band teacher’s face was PRICELESS. That was one concert for the history books," the student confessed.
Band teacher told us we were failures. We rickrolled him at the winter concert.

Having a teacher who is inconsiderate, demotivating, and short-tempered easily influences students' perspectives early in life. In fact, teenagers with a good teacher-student relationship report better physical and mental health as adults, according to research published by the American Psychological Association. It's natural for a teacher to be frustrated, especially in a job that demands their complete attention and focus, but taking it out on the students, like the band teacher, can have adverse effects on the kids.
Meanwhile, reacting to the Reddit post, u/firebrass commented, "I am not a band kid, not even a choir kid, but my best friend was. I just wanted to tell everybody who had crappy, emotionally immature teachers that I'm sorry, but you didn't deserve that."

u/kayelledubya recalled, "Hahahahaha. I wish we’d done this! My college symphony prof pulled my bff and me aside after our performance in a 500-year-old cathedral in Ireland and called us 'embarrassments to Canada.' I couldn’t help but laugh in his face. He was just mad because we DARED to have the most fun on tour, and maybe we didn’t practice quite as much as we should have for the tour. Pffffffff. TBH we were WAY more behaved on tour than we were back home. YOLO." u/boo_jum wrote, "What the actual f*** is wrong with that band teacher? As a band kid (clarinet and bass clarinet marching, contrabass clarinet in concert season), that both infuriates me and saddens me. Band is already usually a bootstrapped program, and kids need encouragement. And kids are KIDS — they’re not going to live up to even college, let alone professional, standards of practice or performance. Band is supposed to be fun and an enrichment. F*** that dude for trying to dishearten and discourage children. He shouldn’t be a teacher."
