The strangers were just passing by when they noticed the young couple getting their engagement photos taken. They stopped to offer compliments and a few wise words on marriage.
Every marriage has its own unique set of highs and lows, and most couples try to work through them. Getting advice from people who have been there and done that can be incredibly helpful and sometimes, this advice comes from the most unexpected sources. Similarly, a couple who had just gotten engaged and were having a photoshoot received the most wholesome advice from strangers married for over 49 years. The heartwarming clip was shared online by photographer Sarah Pughe, who goes by @unspokenphotography on Instagram.
"We were shooting their engagement when this happened... this lovely elderly couple walked by," read the text overlay of the video. "Are you guys getting married?" the elderly man asked. "We just got engaged!" the bride-to-be responded. The couple complimented her, saying she looked gorgeous. "We've been married for 49 years," the man shared. "Do you have any tips or secrets?" the newly-engaged woman asked. "The night we got married, my mother said to me, 'Roy, don't ever say anything to Kathy that you don't really mean,'" he revealed. He explained that couples should never say "I hate you!" because they rarely mean it. The man proudly added, "We never had a fight in 50 years."
His partner also shared some advice with the young couple: "Keep your sense of humor. Do things together! Just enjoy it. Enjoy the simple things." Someone then asked, "How long have you been together?" The man replied, "49 years." When asked, "Do you still like each other?" the couple laughed and enthusiastically responded, "Oh, yeah!" They wished the newly engaged couple good luck before continuing on their way. The photographer captioned the post, "When moments like these happen during sessions, it makes my heart MELT. And even better, I got it on video to share with you. There is nothing more genuine than a couple who’s been together for almost 50 years giving advice to our soon-to-be newlyweds." She added, "Roy and Kathy, I know you are most likely not on the gram - but we thank you for making our day!"
People took to the comments section of the video to share their thoughts on the wholesome advice and to recount their own experiences. @kris.keeps.it.real wrote, "There’s something so beautiful about you blurring out their faces with the sunlight. It’s like they are messengers of love and light. Literal angels on earth. So sweet." @catball710 commented, "My partner and I are 10 days out from our nine-year anniversary... and I can see us in 40 years, still giggling with each other, being best friends. Truly such a gift."
@spmrtl remarked, "What if those two are them in the future and they came back to talk to their past selves about what they could do to avoid hurting each other? Sorry, watched too many movies." @jblizack97 shared, "My past relationship was a complete disaster and almost completely broke me to the point I contemplated suicide. And I’m incredibly proud of the fact that through it all, I never once ever told her anything hateful or hurtful." @livethelife_org expressed, "What a beautiful couple stopping to share some encouraging words with a new couple! We need more of this!"
