Jodie immediately gets down to check if he is still breathing and for first aid.
Oftentimes, when there is a medical emergency, especially among youngsters, people suspect it to be a prank and do not attend to them. Unfortunately, some individuals have lost their lives due to not receiving timely help. However, when this woman noticed a young boy lying on the ground on October 1, she didn’t dismiss it as a prank, and that quick action ended up saving his life.

Jodie Carnall, who goes by the username @jodie_carnall on Instagram, was taking a stroll with her 4-year-old daughter when she noticed a young boy lying unconscious on the road. When she noticed that his friends were on the opposite side of the road, she decided to ask them. However, to her surprise, his friends dismissed it as a prank, with one of them saying, "He's faking it. It always happens. Just ignore him." Jodie, who was skeptical about the situation possibly being a burglary attempt, was concerned for her own 4-year-old's safety. But she also did not want to dismiss it as a prank and decided to walk towards the unconscious boy.
In her video, Jodie says, "I wasn't rushing because I was in two minds about what to do. His friends said he does this all the time. Was it safe for my daughter?" But as Jodie went closer to the young boy, she realized that he wasn't faking it and was shocked at him being left there by his friends. Jodie is seen saying that the kid may have had a seizure, and it doesn't appear like he was faking it. She immediately gets down to check if he was still breathing. That's when she realized that the boy had already dialed 999 (the UK's emergency number), but was unable to talk to them due to the seizure taking hold, and the 999 dispatcher was still on the call. Jodie immediately explained the situation, and an ambulance arrived just in time. Later, Jodie revealed that the kid suffered 9 seizures in 10 minutes and looked visibly shocked at the experience.
Posting the video to alert her followers, Jodie wrote, "Still in a bit of shock from this, to be honest. PLEASE don’t walk away from your friend or, in fact, ANYONE if they are having a seizure. Whether you think it’s ‘fake’ or not. Call 999 to be safe! I record videos in case something happens and it isn’t safe for me and my daughter. I’ve always done it if I’m unsure of a situation." A study authored by Hunniya Waseem, Mohsin Durrani, and Rizwan Naseer in 2010 explored the significant impact of prank calls on emergency medical services. While the study focused on the misuse of emergency calls, it underscored a broader issue, that is, the tendency of individuals to dismiss genuine emergencies as pranks, which can delay or prevent timely medical intervention.
After Jodie's video went viral, many users praised the young mother for her timely intervention. @natjholt, who knew the boy's mother, Tracy, revealed that she was eternally grateful to Jodie for saving her son's life. The comment read, "I know the lad's Mom (Tracy) and she wanted this shared to raise awareness. She’s so grateful to this lady who helped her son. It’s human nature these days to ‘film’ if something seems odd. For all this lady knew, this could have been a setup for an attack on her, so filming was her safeguard." The comment continued, "Obviously, if the outcome was different, I’m sure it wouldn’t have been posted. This lad has a recent brain issue, causing seizures. His so-called ‘mates’ think he ‘puts it on’. Thank the Lord this lady was there to help!!! Thank you, Jody!"
@meet.the.burgess.family commented, "From a Mum of an epileptic teenage boy, thank you for what you did. It scares me that his ‘friends’ reacted in that way." @myflowergirls_ commented, "You’ve shown your daughter that it’s ok to help, once you know it’s safe to do so, thank you for caring when others didn’t x"
