She showed him evidence proving his wife had been cheating on him for over a year

A husband was caught off guard when an unknown woman walked into his workplace and showed him some photos on her phone. That's when he realized that his wife's business trips were actually a cover-up for an extramarital affair she was having with this woman's husband. Truth shook him to the core as he thought about his betrayed children, his wife's parents, and the possibility of divorce. In an August 12, 2026 Reddit post, u/BigONerd shared the entire story originally shared by u/Illustrious_Elk_2356. The post has since amassed over 2,000 upvotes.
The couple was in their 40s when this happened. On the surface, they were the perfect image of a happy couple with two kids. But little did the husband know that a shadowy engagement was lurking behind their relationship. In an August 3, 2026 post, he shared how the other day, when he was at work, a young woman walked into his office and told him that his wife was having an affair with her husband. She showed him photos, call logs, and messages that she'd collected as evidence that their partners had been physically intimate with each other for the past 14 months.
The woman revealed that she had come to know about the affair after she started noticing her husband receiving an unusual amount of late-night messages. A quick investigation confirmed that the messages were from his coworker. She also realized that her husband had been using business trips as a way to spend time with his mistress. "She told me she had wanted to contact me much earlier but wasn't sure I would believe her, so she wanted to present all the evidence in person when she was in my city," the author recalled. Meanwhile, the information left him knocked down. Although he tried to pretend that everything was normal, deep within, his wife’s affair had been eating him up. “My heart tells me one thing, and my head tells me another,” he described.

The author didn’t want to humiliate his wife’s parents, hurt his children, or get involved in the rigmarole of dividing assets. But the weight of anger and resentment was wearing him down. So he confronted his wife, and she confessed that the affair was purely sexual. While the other woman, whose husband had cheated on her, exposed him at his workplace and filed for divorce, the author couldn't make a decision that quickly, especially because kids were involved.
His lawyer, though, insisted that he tell them the truth; otherwise they may end up blaming him for the divorce while viewing their mom as the victim. In the end, the author did tell everything to his children. While one of them took the news calmly, the other got furious at her mom. "They asked me about the divorce, and I told them that, for now, that is my plan. They took that very hard, but we are taking it day by day," he shared.

No one can completely explain why men and women go outside their marriages for love or intimacy, but there is a gigantic number of those found to be cheating in their relationships. According to statistics by the General Social Survey(GSS), nearly 20% of married men and 13% of married women in the US admit to having a sexual relationship outside their marriage.
Moreover, as quoted by The CHADIE Foundation, clinical psychologist Ana Nogales once researched children of divorcing parents and found that 75% of the children experience lingering feelings of betrayal towards their cheating parent. Now, this proves what the author was earlier reluctant to share about his cheating wife with their kids.

Betrayed spouses can learn from her." u/livingmyfirstlife wrote, "Damn. Another sickening story. These stories have just utterly made me so cynical. Why, why? To risk and blow up something you spent your entire life building. What has to be mentally/psychologically wrong with these people? Let’s not even talk about your partner, but your kids and parents. Your partner can cut you out of their lives. However, your kids/parents/siblings are stuck with you? How do you face them?"
