Steven Spielberg even joined the fun by asking pub-goers a question during the quiz

On the evening of June 5, 2026, Steven Spielberg fans who happened to be at The Devonshire in Soho, London, got the surprise of a lifetime. BBC Radio 1 film critic Ali Plumb was hosting a Spielberg-themed pub quiz when he teased the crowd by announcing that a few special guests were about to arrive. Moments later, Spielberg himself walked into the room alongside actor Colman Domingo, the star in his latest film, "Disclosure Day." Not only did he make an appearance, but he also joined in on the fun. Plumb shared a selfie with Domingo and the famed director holding a pint of Guinness in a room full of fans on his Instagram (@aliplumb), which received 31,000 likes and 395 comments.
According to NME, Spielberg began the quiz by asking, "What was the first science fiction film that I ever made?" If you guessed "Firelight," you are correct. Firelight was Spielberg's first science fiction film and his feature film directorial debut, released in 1964. Oisin Rogers, the owner of The Devonshire, spoke to the BBC and told them that Spielberg told him he had a "lovely time" and he "really enjoyed" the Guinness beer. The director's appearance comes as he continues promoting his newest film in London. Following its UK premiere on June 4, the star-studded production, featuring Colman Domingo, Emily Blunt, Josh O'Connor, Colin Firth, and Eve Hewson, is scheduled for release on June 12.

Spielberg is a man born with talent. Not many can say that they used their own films to get credits for two different classes in college. Spielberg used "Jurassic Park" and "Schindler's List," both released in 1993, to pass two of his classes, as per Collider. His in-depth knowledge about dinosaurs in "Jurassic Park" helped him earn credits during paleontology class, and he used "Schindler's List" to earn credits in an advanced filmmaking class.
He attended California State University, Long Beach for three years, but did not complete his degree. Instead, he dove right into working as a filmmaker. Years later, after building himself a name in the film industry, he went back to the same college, but under a pseudonym. He studied remotely and finally received his degree in Film and Electronic Arts. While he walked down the stage during graduation, they played the theme song from "Indiana Jones," another film he directed.

Several people in the comments were surprised that Spielberg actually showed up to attend a pub quiz night. People also congratulated Plumb for pulling it off. @hollyjonesradio wrote, "Okay, this is by far the maddest thing thatβs ever happened to you. Excellent work, my talented friend!" @jakestakes commented, "Are you aware you won at life? Because you won at life!"
