Old clip shows Steve Irwin talking about meeting wife Terri for the first time: 'Love at first sight'

"I know it sounds like it's coming out of some Mills and Boon, a love novel but it’s true," said Steve.

The stories of couples meeting for the first time and falling in love immediately might sound impossible but it has happened to many and it is also the most beautiful feeling. Love at first sight also happened to "crocodile hunter" Steve Irwin and his wife Terri. In a video posted on Reddit by u/Ocelot859, the couple is seen narrating the story of meeting each other for the first time with great enthusiasm and joy. Terri begins by saying, “I was sold. I thought this was the most incredible guy I’ve ever seen. He’s probably married, he’s got to be taken.”

Steve then narrates what was going on in his mind when he saw his future wife in the crowd, “When I saw Terri in the crowd, our eyes met and my heart just went bang, bang, bang. It just started thumping, it was love at first sight. I know it sounds like it's coming out of some Mills and Boon, a love novel but it’s true.” He continues, “Next thing I remembered where I was ‘Agros is trying to kill me’ so I quickly wound up the demo and she stayed back and talked to me.”

Terri adds, “He said hello to me and I said something clever like 'Hi.' And that precise moment Lorri took a picture of us. Now, that photograph I still have until this day and it is the funniest. I don’t know if a lot of couples have a photo of the exact moment of the first time they met and I’m lucky enough to have that shot.”

The video has more than 6 thousand upvotes and is captioned, “Steve Irwin talks about meeting his wife Terri for the very first time.” Fans of the zookeeper left their best memories of the couple from their book, "Steve And Me." u/pit-butt commented: "This left out my favorite part of the story. They wrote in their book together that afterwards, Steve said, 'You want to meet my girlfriend?' And Terri was incredibly disappointed. She said 'yes,' and Steve called Sui, his dog, from around the corner." “It wasn't just love at first sight, it was love at every sight. You could just feel the love they exuded for each other. The world lost Steve, but Terri lost her soul mate,” wrote u/Frankly_Ridiculous. "Terri was asked after Steve’s death if she would ever remarry. Her response was, 'I already had my happily ever after',” shared u/firstcoastrider. “This man's energy and enthusiasm about anything and everything will never ever be matched by anyone,” expressed u/lowtothekey.

In February this year, Terri wrote on Twitter, “It was 31 years ago today that Steve asked, and I said 'Yes!' We were soulmates, best friends, and worked together on a mission of wildlife conservation. Best of all, we had lots of fun!” The two apparently met for the first time in October 1991, when Terri visited Australia Zoo where Steve worked, as per an excerpt of their book shared by abc News

She admitted that she immediately fell in love with Steve. "I thought there was no one like this anywhere in the world. He sounded like an environmental Tarzan, a larger-than-life superhero guy." The couple got engaged just four months after in February 1992 and they had a dreamy wedding in June of the same year. Unfortunately, Steve was killed by a stingray in 2006 in Australia. He was just 44 years old.

Following his death, Terri had said, "You know, and I keep saying this, and I think maybe 15 years later people are finally starting to believe me, Steve was it for me...That's just the way it is. I had a big, big love and it was enough to last a lifetime."
