Stepdad imparts valuable life lesson to 10-year-old son about treating women with respect

Some things need to be said to kids when they are growing up and should not be delayed. Such important lessons help kids become better versions of themselves as they become adults. Maggie Dean (@maggiemacvenn) recently shared a video about her husband, who was a stepdad to her 10-year-old son, imparting a valuable life lesson about how she should treat women. The video has become quite popular on social media, with 2 million views.

The man can be seen standing next to the door and telling the boy he should not talk to his mother in a rude manner. He says, "I only do this to show you what to do when you're old." The man goes on to share how he was very worried before going in to talk with him as he did not want to hurt his feelings or come off as mean. But the man had to do it because the boy needed to be mature enough to know how to treat the women in his life with respect.

He remarks how he did not want the boy to return home and wonder where it all went wrong with a woman he cared for. The stepdad adds, "I don't want you to do that. I don't want you to hurt the way I've hurt my life." The boy began to cry, realizing the mistake he had made, but the man reassured him that he should set boundaries that were healthy. Setting up these boundaries would initially be difficult but proved to be beneficial in the long run.

The stepdad reiterated how it took a lot of courage for him to talk about this with the boy but that he did it out of love for him. The video concludes with him saying, "I don't like seeing you cry. I don't like talking to you like this. But I cannot accept you talking to your mom like that." People on the site loved the way the father handled the situation and chimed in with their thoughts in the comments section. @mikalacolleen said, "He was so calm but yet got his point across. It all starts at home with dad setting boundaries on how boys talk to their mothers!"

Seeing the dad take such a strong stance is inspiring and more parents should take note of it. Another TikTok dad, Owen Squires (@owen_squires), shared a video discussing how he was going to make a change as he got sick of hearing parents apologize for the way their kids were behaving. He starts the video by saying, "If my child is ever crying at the grocery store, I am not removing them from the grocery store and I am sorry if that makes you mildly uncomfortable or brings out the controlling part of your personality, but it is not illegal for a child to have feelings."

Squires highlights how he felt watched when his child had a meltdown at the grocery store. He recalled, "Now I can feel my anxiety level rising and I can feel my anger level rising like this is affecting my ego." The entire situation made him very uneasy. The father goes on to point out how society as a whole should relax and be more patient with parents and their kids. He called his approach "gentle parenting."
