Being kind to strangers costs nothing, but its impact can be truly priceless. Some people have a natural energy that not only keeps them cheerful but also lifts up those around them. Imagine how much brighter your day would be if your morning barista greeted you with a smile and kind words. That was the experience for a couple who were regulars at Starbucks, served by a barista named Gabby, known as u/Independent-Fish1733 on Reddit. On her last day at the store, the couple made sure Gabby knew just how much she had brightened their days.

Gabby shared a heartwarming letter the couple left for her on her last day. "I received this letter on my last day at my old store right before I transferred. It really opened my eyes," she wrote. The letter, dated 3rd August 2024, read, "Throughout our lives, people come and go. Many are lovely people, some have an impact the effects of which cannot be overstated. You, Gabby, are a lovely person who has touched our hearts in ways I am sure you can't even imagine." Turns out, Gabby's lively spirit was significant in many ways. The husband was diagnosed with cancer two years ago and his daily coffee at the Starbucks was the source of his energy which was "severely depleted" due to chemotherapy and immunotherapy.

The husband noted that it wasn’t just the coffee that lifted his spirits each day. "It was the truly lovely and kind baristas who served us, who touched our hearts with their friendly demeanors. You, in particular, Gabby, were a ray of sunshine on even the darkest and most challenging days," the letter read. The couple was not only enthused but also found peace in Gabby's "lifting voice, sweet disposition and lovely facial expressions." They added, "We never know how a kind word or a simple gesture affects others. We wanted you to know that you have become as important to us as the team of infusion nurses who invariably treat us with compassion and kindness."

The couple wished Gabby well at her new job. "Your future customers are very fortunate; they have no idea what's in store for them," they added. Along with the letter was an unexpected gift that awaited the barista - a huge tip to compensate for the days they wouldn't be able to tip her after she transferred. "They also gave me 100 bucks which was so helpful because I just moved," she mentioned in her post. Gabby added that it was "very surprising" that the "upbeat and kind" couple were going through tough times. "You really never know what’s going on with some people," she rightly titled her post. She wrote in one of the comments that she couldn't thank the sweet couple for the letter as she read it during her break time after they left.

This tear-jerking letter and Gabby's kind gesture warmed people's hearts. "This is lovely. What a beautiful reminder that you never know how you might be affecting the days of those around you," said u/sphagettirhymes. "It’s always nice to remember how the little things can make such a big difference to someone. Glad you had such a profound impact and were able to make their tough days a bit better for them," lauded u/scrabblyfan123. "Please don’t ever change. The world desperately needs all the you's we can get," added u/goinnorth12.
