Spotify AI DJ 'X' is a real person recommending songs after knowing 3 seconds of listening activity

Music binds all humans together, no matter the differences in language and culture. Many people are always looking for song recommendations Won't you be left stunned? Dose of Society, a page that interviews people, recently posted a video on Instagram talking to the real person behind the Spotify AI and his name is Xavier "X" Jernigan. The first question that the host asks Jernigan is, "What is one thing I wouldn't believe about you?" and he responds," You may not believe it but I'm AI DJ on Spotify. What up, I'm X," with a bright smile on his face.

He continues, "I have to have pretty good knowledge of music and yes, that is a part of the requirements." So, the interviewer sets the DJ up for a challenge. He asks him to take the mic and walk up to some people who are listening to music, listen to what they are listening to for three seconds and then give them some recommendations of artists they will enjoy. After that, Jernigan could be seen walking around looking for people who were wearing headphones. He asks one man with headphones, "Can I listen to what you are listening to and then recommend something to you based on what I hear?" The person agrees and gives him his headphones.

Next, he could be seen listening to music from a woman's playlist and asks her, "Is this Sade?" and she laughs and says, "Yeah." He also seems quite delighted with her choice of music and goes, "Come on, man. I can definitely recommend you something," he tells her. Then he tries to guess the sort of music she would like, "Laid-back vibes" and she adds to it, "Sensual." He suggests the American musician Maxwell for her. She looks amused by his suggestion and says, "Oh my God, you say, Maxwell. I love Maxwell." After which, he can be seen listening to music from a man's headphones and saying, "Oh, I like this. I don't know this band though. Who is this?" The person tells him that it's a British band called, "The Foals." Jernigan then goes on to recommend him, "The Hives. Tick, Tick, Boom." The man tells him that he doesn't know the song so he makes him listen to it. He goes, "Oh, we got some cowbells." So, Jernigan responds, "Cowbells are always good" and the man enthusiastically shares, "We are always in. Always more cowbell."

The video ends with Jernigan saying excitedly, "I think I won the challenge." The video garnered about 2.7 million views on social media and is captioned, "It’s not every day you meet Spotify’s AI DJ." People were glad to know that Jernigan was behind the Spotify AI. @b_mcd314 commented, "This makes the AI DJ so much better knowing it’s actually a cool dude." @jay_wats_ agreed saying, "Dude looks like the coolest guy to hang out with." @buuuuuuuurd was happy to know a real person is behind the AI. "He's a real voice!?!? He’s my current best friend. The only person that’s been a constant for the past few months." @annekluit.respace said, "What a great skill! His energy is so open and warm." @dsbucheli wrote, "I’m just now realizing that he is both DJ X and x from The Get Up! Man, I loved that show." 

Spotify launched the AI DJ in March last year and it is based on Spotify's Head of Cultural Partnerships, Jernigan. He is the first voice model for the AI feature as many listeners are used to his voice and personality, according to TechCrunch. The AI DJ basically personalizes the listeners' experience by recommending music that the person would be interested in. Moreover, it also runs a commentary about each song, more like a radio host. Other than being the voice model, he hosts Spotify podcasts as well like "The Window," "The Showstopper," and "The Get Up".
