The woman shared that this trick has helped her immensely over the years and is sure to keep anyone warm in the coldest temperatures.
When someone moves to a new country or travels to a place with a different climate, they might struggle to know how to dress for the weather. This can be especially challenging in cold countries, where protecting oneself from the chill is crucial. A Spanish nurse living in Norway has a simple rule for dressing warmly in colder climates like Norway. Laura en el Valhalla—who goes by @laura.en.el.valhalla on TikTok—took to the platform to share the life-saving trick.
"Today, I bring to you some tips that have helped me over the years," Valhalla began. "One of the first things that I've learned in Norway is the three-layer rule." She added, "This means that our first layer is a thermal, thin, long-sleeve shirt. Personally, I prefer Merino wool because it is the best at keeping you warm. Even though it's pricey, I think it's worth it." The one she was wearing was not particularly thick and the company sells the same in different thicknesses. "The socks that I recommend are wool or Merino wool socks," she revealed. They fit very well and keep the person warm, as per the nurse. "What I always like to do is wear them over my pants, so it is well sealed and I can't get cold," the nurse explained.
Also, Valhalla tucked her shirt into her pants to ensure that the layer was completely sealed. "The second step is to put on your everyday clothes," Valhalla went on. "For example, if I am going to work or simply to go do grocery shopping or whatever, I wear ski pants." Depending on how cold it was, she wore another t-shirt or a thick sweater. "When you get into the habit of wearing Merino underneath, you wear it with everything," the woman expressed. "Now I am going to wear it with a pair of jeans. As you can see, it is not very noticeable either that it has Merino underneath it."
"The third layer is the coat you are going to wear on the street," she added. The nurse was dressing up for standard cold weather in the country and paired her outfits with gloves, a thick scarf and a hat. She also suggested that people should wear thermals with thumb holes for extra warmth, as she concluded her video. People in the comments shared their thoughts on the same. @solomirona wrote, "I live in Norway too, but it's the first time I've seen someone dress like that. I don't even want to go skiing. Everything is air-conditioned, like cars and buses. The three layers are wool, blouse and jacket."
@belen_tik_tok commented, "I also live in a cold place and my rule is never to wear sweaters because on public transport, in cafes and at work, you get roasted. The top part, warm, made of wool but with a zipper." @anotniacruz546 remarked, "Merino wool is the best invention in the world because it is also not itchy at all. Since I discovered the interiors of the Kari brand, they have been the best for me of all the ones I have tried."
