Parents celebrating 50th anniversary have a joyous reaction when surprised by a special waiter

Surprises have a way of making our hearts melt like an ice cream scoop on a hot brownie. They can be the reason we laugh on a random afternoon, looking back at those moments. Similarly, a recent video posted by Natalia Merino Stapleton–who goes on Instagram by @cinnamonstyle–captured a heartening moment between her brother and their parents. The video shows her brother disguised as a waiter and her parents seated with their widest smiles in their most elegant outfits at a classy restaurant, assuming that they’re celebrating their 50th anniversary without their son. 

They begin the celebrations with the clinking of their champagne glasses and browsing through the food menu to decide what to order. The masked waiter places their first course on the table and the lady can be seen turning to talk to him. He answers back and explains to the whole table what seems like a description of the next course. Amidst the conversation between the waiter and the couple, the man suddenly gets up, approaches the waiter and lifts his mask.

By then, the father has discovered that the waiter is actually his son and embraces him in a tight hug. The mother breaks into a wide smile, turns back and says, “Oh, they know each other!” She still hadn’t figured out that it was her son, so she turned to her friends and asked, “Who is it?” She continued clapping and then got up from her chair to look at the man closely, but she still failed to recognize him from the side. She turned to her friend a second time and asked, “Who is it?” Finally, when the father lets go of the son, the mother can see him clearly. She stretched out her arms wide to embrace her son in a hug. The parents then hugged their son, who was dressed from top to bottom in his waiter disguise and the moment was a magical union of the family.

The video concludes with the couple bursting with double the joy, holding hands and swaying to some live saxophone music. Stapleton captioned her video which roughly translates to, “My brother hadn’t seen my parents in 5 years and he came to surprise them on their 50th anniversary. He dressed up as a waiter from @lacuadradesalvador and I tagged them not for publicity but because since I told them the idea, they put on the shirt with the surprise, giving ideas, lending us the apron and being the best accomplices! It was an unforgettable day today and I wanted to share this happiness with you!”

Stapleton’s heartwarming video has gained over 11M views with 747K likes. People in the comment section reached out to grab some tissues and were flooded with melting hearts. Instagram user @noelia_2501 commented, “The dad noticed when the son opened his big eyes! How beautiful to recognize your child by gestures.” @nicolelinaresv said, “50 years.
