Son disrespects his fiancée in front of his mom — she shut him down and gave him an earful

The couple orchestrated the plan together to find out if Grace's future mother-in-law was as toxic as in-laws are often portrayed.

It is a common belief that mothers-in-law are often at odds with their daughters-in-law, and in some cases, this proves true. To see if she'd face the same challenge, TikTok user Keely Grace (@keely1123), secretly recorded her fiancé being rude to her. When she panned the camera to her future mother-in-law, she was pleasantly surprised by her unexpected support.

The couple set up the situation at the dining table, with Nash (the fiancé) intentionally making rude comments toward Grace. When Grace asked, "Can you pass me the butter, please?" Nash responded sharply, saying, "The thing is already soaked in butter. Do you really think you need more butter? It's like a lot of calories."

Before Grace could respond, her future mother-in-law quickly intervened, calling out her son. "Excuse me. Hey, who raised you?" Nash replied, "You did." His mother didn't hold back, saying, "I did and I did not raise you to be talking to her like that. She asked you for something—you need to get it for her." Nash defended his comment, saying, "I was trying to help her out; it's for her benefit." However, his mom stood her ground, responding, "She doesn't need you counting her calories or intake of her butter. She wants butter; she can have butter."

Despite Nash continuing to defend his comments, insisting that Grace wanted to turn over a new leaf this year and eat more consciously, his mom wasn’t having it. She firmly responded, "Seriously, who are you? Because you are not my child, I didn't raise you like this." She continued, expressing her disbelief, "I don't understand you. I didn't raise you to talk to her that way, to any woman that way. You don't treat me that way."

Unfortunately, mothers-in-law often have a reputation for being toxic, with some even going to extreme lengths to disrupt their children's marriages. Janelle Marie (@millennialmatleave) on TikTok addressed this sensitive topic and offered insight into why some mothers may behave this way. In her video, she begins by saying, "The key to being a non-toxic mother-in-law is locked somewhere within filling your own cup. Fill your damn cup."

Marie continued, "Something outside of your children that makes you feel good, makes you feel fulfilled, makes you feel happy- nurturing friendships, nurturing relationships and nurturing your marriage. I, unfortunately, feel like a number of the mothers-in-law who are finding themselves really confused about this role of mother-in-law are dissatisfied in the role as mother-in-law." As a result, these mothers come off as controlling and sometimes become so desperate that they act without rational thinking.
