Grandma makes 'Amazon driver' feel at home without realizing it was her grandson returning from military duty

'After this is over, y’all need to sit granny down and talk to her about stranger danger...'

Grandma makes 'Amazon driver' feel at home without realizing it was her grandson returning from military duty

Annalise Ryan's (@annaliseryan9 on Instagram) brother, a soldier, wanted to surprise his grandparents when he returned home after two years in the military. To make the moment even more special, he arrived at their doorstep, disguised as an Amazon delivery guy, not knowing that his granny would actually take so long to recognize him. Posted on July 13, the video has received over 38 million views within the first 48 hours.

He arrived at his grandparents' home, dressed as a typical deliveryman — wearing a tucked-in shirt, shorts, a cap, and a mask to hide his identity. Ryan's grandpa opened the door and, without smelling anything fishy, received the parcel from the Amazon deliveryman. Then, he asked his wife to come forward and sign the Proof of Delivery (POD). The granny arrived and signed the document, but not even for once did she sense anything suspicious. "Can I use your restroom?" the soldier asked, and his granny, surprisingly, agreed to let a complete stranger inside her house, but not before making him take off his shoes. Ryan's brother came inside, used the restroom, and just as he was about to exit, one of his siblings asked, "Would you like some chicken soup?"

Everyone knew what was happening except for their grandparents. Upon nodding at the offer, Ryan's granny immediately went to the kitchen to pack some soup for the Amazon guy, but little did she know, he would actually insist on relishing it at her home. "Can I just eat it here?" Ryan's brother asked, and their granny immediately agreed. By now, although she had begun doubting the whole situation, she still didn't complain much about it. As the soldier went near the dining table, his granny ran into the kitchen to grab some cutlery. But when she came back, he removed his mask, unveiling the biggest surprise. She couldn't believe her eyes, and rightfully so, because it had been two years since she had seen her grandson. Their granny fell to the ground and burst into uncontrollable tears as Ryan's brother took her in his loving arms.

People in the defense spend most of their lives away from their families, serving the nation, but they aren't the only ones who suffer. Their closest friends and families also go through a never-ending cycle of anxiety. For grandparents or elderly parents, the feeling could be worse as they constantly worry about not having enough time to spend with their children or grandchildren. In fact, when a study published in the National Library of Medicine examined over 400 grandparents for more than 15 years, it found that those who had lost contact with their grandchildren experienced an increase in depressive symptoms. Now, you might imagine what relief Ryan's grandparents must have felt when they saw their grandson again.

Meanwhile, when Ryan shared the video on Instagram, the post quickly went viral, with people praising their granny for being so kind, even to someone she initially thought was a stranger. For example, @babybella777 commented, "Protect grandma at all costs! I love her so much; what a special, special person! This is the best video on the internet!" @ari said, "Grandma just missed her grandson so much that she took care of him because he looked like him, but she didn’t know it was him. I’m laughing and crying at the same time."

Another user who goes by @user57899656899678 on TikTok commented, "This is my new favorite video that I've ever seen! From how generous she was while thinking it was a stranger to the way she broke down once she realized who it was, it is amazing." @wontontickles confessed, "Korean moms/grandmas are always feeding people. No one leaves my mom's house without eating or taking food to go." Similarly, @aku wrote, "If she is this giving and welcoming to strangers, imagine how much the grandchildren must be spoiled. They are [lucky], bless her heart!" @xiomara_diaz1414 wrote, "This is too cute and amazing. I can’t believe how beautiful her heart is. She had no issue letting a 'stranger' use her bathroom, did not hesitate to feed him, and even offered her house for him to eat in. She’s so pure and kind. She deserves all the goodness in the universe."
