The father dressed up as a mother for his daughter's school celebration so that she wouldn't miss out on anything.
Parenting does not look the same for everyone. It is no longer the norm for households to have two parents. Single parenthood is on the rise with almost a quarter of children in the US living with only one parent, as per Pew Research Centre. Several people might have the opinion that such children miss out on certain things. There is a prevailing belief that a single parent cannot fulfill the roles of both mother and father at the same time.
However, a father in Thailand is breaking such stereotypes, and showing up for his daughter in every way possible, as reported by Mothership. He decided to attend his daughter's Mother's Day event at school dressed as a woman, so that she wouldn't miss out on anything, and the adorable effort is winning hearts on TikTok. The video has garnered more than 300k views within six days.
Thailand celebrates Mother's Day on August 12. On the occasion of Mother's Day, Ban Noen Kroi School arranged an event in which students would participate with their mothers, and pay their respects. This meant that Cream, who was in the third grade, could not join because she was solely raised by her dad. After her father got to know about it, he decided to ensure that his daughter does not feel left out. Cream's father, Joe Lookphonbodee, dressed in a wig and costume to accompany Cream to the event as her mother.
Joe works as a Physical and Health Education teacher in the same school where his daughter studies. He had adopted Cream as a child. The father is a popular figure amongst his students and they lovingly call him Mr Pratya or Teacher Joe. In an interview with Bangkok Biz News, Joe explained the reasoning behind his decision: "When the school organizes Mother's Day activities, I don't want my child to have an inferiority complex. Personally, I'm not ashamed because I love my child." He also stressed the fact that Cream was his "real" child and just because they are not biologically related does not mean that their relationship is any less meaningful.
Joe uploaded his entire experience on TikTok and captioned it: "Mother, I can be for you hahaha." The video features Cream paying respect to her father alongside her classmates who are doing so with their own mothers. After standing up, she gave a heartwarming hug to her father with a beaming smile on her face. This shows how much this gesture meant to her. She found her father to be "beautiful and cute" in his ensemble.
Cream appreciated her father in the interview by saying, "This year's Mother's Day, I want to say I love my father. Thank you, Father, for raising me and making me happy. This life doesn't feel like it lacks anything."
The comment section was in awe of this father-daughter bond. @3108jwy_ was emotional seeing the pair and wrote, "What a great blessing for this relationship! You both deserve the best. Best dad." @tailorsmith88 loved the gesture by the father, writing: "My tears... proud of you... Best Dad to this kid."
