Single dad handles daughter's first period in the best way — with ice cream, candy, & flowers

Being a single dad is hard enough. But it can be even trickier if you're a single dad to a young daughter. However, single dad Maverick Austin from Texas proved that there's no occasion a father can't rise to. All he needs to do is approach the challenge with love, empathy, and maybe just a little bit of pampering. When Maverick realized his 11-year-old daughter had just had her dreaded first period while in school (arguably the worst place to happen), he rushed to her rescue and made sure she had everything she needed, The Daily Mail reports.

Like any young girl, his daughter Avi wasn't quite sure what was happening when she first spotted blood in her underwear. She had phoned him from school to tell him that she thought she had pooped her pants - though that, of course, was not the case at all. At first, however, her dad believed her and thought she just had a little accident, as she explained. So he drove to her school in order to help her out. He explained in a post uploaded to Facebook, "So I rush to school, take her a change of undies, put the old ones in a bag, and rush back to my conference call and threw the bag in the kitchen trash."

A little while later, he got "The Call" again. "Few hours later she calls and I had to put a very important work meeting I’m hosting on hold which I never do and she says, 'Dad it happened again,'" he wrote. "I’m confused and very annoyed because I’m super busy... I yell, 'Just wipe your butt better then stuff toilet paper in the back of your pants and I’ll have to call you back in an hour!' And I hang up. A few minutes later, it hits me... OMG! I rush to the trash to dig out and inspect the undies from earlier and scream, 'That’s blood, not poop!'" Because menstrual blood can have a murky brown color at the very beginning of a menstrual cycle, it's no surprise that both Avi and Maverick were slightly confused. So what does daddy dearest do? Spring into action, obviously!

He stated, "I interrupt my project meeting and explain to my banking colleagues that I’m VERY sorry but I have to go! I’m racing to the school while calling them, telling the nurse to 'go find my child!' [I was] speeding and having a panic attack because my child called me for help and I just 'left her to die on the battlefield!' I run [into] the office and she’s standing there, very calm, looking at me, and says, 'Dad... I officially started my first...' And I stopped her and said, 'I already know, Avi... It hit me a few minutes after I hung up on you." It is great to see a dad admit to his mistakes.

In order to make up for his ignorance, he had a little surprise for Avi when she asked him if she gets something for starting her period "like when a tooth falls out" and she gets something from the Tooth Fairy. Being the clever dad he is, he snuck off to the store and surprised her with lots of treats when she got out of the shower, including candy, flowers, and ice cream. Talk about being the single dad of the year, eh?
