One act of kindness can lead to another. Summerlyn Powers (@summerlynpowers), an aspiring singer, was feeling down after her show was canceled due to the rain. She was in her car, and a Calera firetruck was parked next to her. She decided to ask the firefighters to listen to her songs on Spotify. A few minutes later, after jamming to her songs, they invited her to the station to help a friend. The video was shared on August 10, 2026, and it received 750,000 views, 60,800 likes, and 151 comments.

Pick a favorite

After her show got canceled, Powers was moping inside the car, but decided to do something else instead. "I'm just gonna build the audience while I can," she said as she wrote a message on her phone. She asked the firefighters to listen to her songs on Spotify, and made them pick a favorite. She was watching their reaction through the car window, and was worried they did not like it. But a few moments later, they invited her to the station to sing for their friend who just went through a breakup. They offered to pay her $60 to sing a breakup song for Lucas, a fellow fighter. Powers did not need to think twice and followed them.

Healing breakup song

In Part 2 of the video, Powers briefly narrated how she ended up at the station to a forlorn-looking Lucas. She said, "I was sitting in the car next to these guys. I put my phone up, and then they rolled the window down, and they're like, 'Do you know any breakup songs?'" Lucas immediately realized what his friends/colleagues had done and covered his face with his hands. The clip cut to the firefighters gathering around and listening to Powers' "Healing Like I Am." Everyone clapped and cheered after the song ended. The video ended with one of the firefighters thanking Powers for agreeing to come and comfort Lucas during his breakup.

Music mends

Some people believe that music has healing powers. A LISTEN survey conducted by YouGov and shared on PR Newswire found that one in three Americans turned to music to get through a breakup. The study also revealed that women (38%) were more likely than men (28%) to listen to music while experiencing heartbreak. Additionally, Millennials (48%) were more likely to do the same compared to people aged 55 and over (22%). Since Lucas recently got broken up with, his friends thought Powers' breakup songs might help with how he's feeling.

Good music, great friends

People in the comment section were pumped that Powers agreed to sing for Lucas. They loved it more because it was a Powers original. @tinapowersart.studio commented, "I can’t stop watching his reaction! Bless his broken little heart!" @jeeb2412 added, "His face, poor guy, but hey, at least he has great friends to cheer him up."
