She was seconds away from meeting online date when her 'investigative-baddie' mom made a life-saving call

She had met the man on Facebook Dating and was stunned to learn what her mom had found out about him by digging around.

One must be extra careful while meeting online friends or potential partners in person. As we usually have limited information about this person, we might be unaware of what we are getting ourselves into. A woman had a firsthand experience with that when she was about to go on a date with a man she met on Facebook Dating. Despite doing a thorough profile check before her date, she couldn't find any red flags about him. Maddy, who goes by @maddybingbong on TikTok, thought everything was kosher until she got a call from her mom.

In the video, Maddy explained why she waited in a parking lot for a couple of minutes, went back home, and ultimately stood up her date despite driving 30 minutes to the location. "It sounds like I stood this dude up or that I saw him and didn’t like what I saw and left; that's not the case," she said. Giving some context, she recalled, "I met this guy [on Facebook Dating], and I thought that he was cool, he looked nice, and we had been texting a couple of times." Then, the man asked her if she was busy and wanted to meet up. "I said, 'Sure, let's do it. I am free,'" she added.

"I asked him for his first and last name, and he sent me a screenshot of his Facebook. I didn't know that he spelled his last name backward on Facebook," Maddy recounted. "I should have known because it was kind of a weird last name, but I was like, maybe it's just a name I’ve never heard of."

She pointed out, "I live in Indiana where there is a website called MyCase.gov. I don't know how many other states have that." The woman detailed that you can go to the website and put in a person's first and last name or just their last name if it's uncommon and learn about the police charges against them.

"I put his last name in, and nothing came up. I was like, okay, he's fine," she said.

She did a little more digging and saw his company's name on his profile, realizing that his last name was spelled backward. "A couple of things popped up, like traffic violations, and I thought, that’s not bad. Most people are likely to get a traffic violation at some point in their lives," Maddy remarked. But her mom sensed something was amiss and continued to dig into him while Maddy drove to her date.

While she was in the parking lot before meeting her date, she received a call from her mom. "As I pull into the parking lot, she says, "Do not go inside. He has several charges for battery, strangulation, and multiple charges for breach of privacy,'" she recalled. Maddy then decided to call the man and told him what her "investigative baddie" (mom) dug up on him. He admitted her information was correct but tried to convince her that none of the charges were true. Maddy blocked him on all social media platforms and drove home.

People took to the comments to express their views on the scenario. @adamp4241 wrote, "I'm glad you do your research. If he did it once, he could do that again." @victory_with_sheldon commented, "Invasion of privacy means his victim had a court-ordered protection order that he knowingly and intentionally violated. Signed, an Indiana Cop. You did good here, sis." @amber.heflin__ remarked, "Hiding his government name as a full-grown adult on social media is a red flag. That's like putting Krusty Krab as his place of employment, weird vibes. Your mom is a real one for digging deeper."

According to Hotline.org, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men over 18 years have been victims of physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime in America.
