Toni Marmo had to involve her mom on her disastrous first date

Being a good listener is one of the most attractive qualities a person can have. Sadly, that was not the case for Toni Marmo's (@toniimarmo) date. On July 15, 2026, she took to TikTok to share one of her worst dating experiences. Well, Marmo had already informed her date that she was gluten-free even before he picked the restaurant for their first meeting. However, when they arrived, she was shocked by the limited menu — but little did Marmo know that was only the beginning. The man managed to make the date even worse by hanging out with his friends while Marmo was sitting there alone. Her video has received over 80,000 views on her page.

Marmo was fresh out of a relationship and admitted that she'd set the bar extremely low. So, when this man reached out to her on Instagram, she agreed to go on a date almost immediately. While planning, he told her about a restaurant in Philly, and she asked if he could pick something in South Jersey so she wouldn't have to drive, but the man insisted they stick to his choice. Marmom agreed but told her date about her dietary restrictions, and he promised the restaurant would have a few options for her to choose from. However, when they reached there, she realized that there was just one gluten-free option on the menu. When Marmo brought it up, the man responded with, "I hate that," as if blaming her for her restrictions.

While the couple sat down, the man noticed his friends at the bar and went to talk to them. Notably, the man left Marmo alone at the table for almost half an hour, and then invited his friends over. Everyone was enjoying their "guy time," except for Marmo. She was so pissed that she really wanted to leave. However, she maintained her calm and redirected her focus on the wine instead.
After the terrible dinner date, it was time to head back, and Marmo decided to call a cab. However, when she checked on the app, the rides were extremely expensive. So, Marmo naturally mentioned it to her date, hoping he would be a gentleman and salvage the remainder of the night by paying for her Uber. However, instead of offering her a ride, he responded with, "Oh darn, I guess you have to sleep over." That was Marmo's last straw. She called her mother, who came to pick her up, and got "a nice little talking to on the ride home."

For most people, like Marmo, a selfish partner is the ultimate red flag in a relationship. Emphasizing it, My Therapist surveyed 991 Americans and found that 72% said they could not bear it when their partner took them for granted. Similarly, 57% could not tolerate their partner always thinking they're right, while 47% were annoyed when their partner ignored their input, and 32% hated it when their partner bailed on their plans. In Marmo's case, her date not only took her for granted but also ignored her request even after she informed him of her dietary restrictions.

Meanwhile, netizens in the comments offered different solutions to how Marmo's date could have saved the night. @alex.al_26 wrote, "He should have offered to drive you home if the Uber was too much." @mcg_122 asked, "Did he know his friends were going to be there, or was it planned?" To which Marmo replied, "Seemed a little too coincidental if you ask me."
