Children notice far more than adults give them credit for. When Paulie Pierce spotted whipped cream and fresh strawberries in the fridge before serving a DUI sentence, she assumed her fiancé had left a sweet treat for her. The reality, however, unraveled on a midday school bus ride home. Pierce was out on work release, caring for her fiancé's young son, when the boy innocently described their weekend. He told her how dad had invited a woman over for a backyard picnic. They were supposed to play football, but only the adults played. What unfolded next was shocking for Pierce as she revealed the whole story on the Rise Above podcast (@Riseabovewithkevin) on October 7, 2026, garnering over 20,000 views.
Right before reporting to jail to serve a 62-day sentence following rehab, Pierce noticed strawberries and whipped cream sitting in her refrigerator. At first, she assumed her partner had brought them for her. The truth, however, was far from it. "I thought the whipped cream and strawberries might be for me or whatever, but apparently they weren't," Pierce recounted.

The pieces came together during Pierce's midday work release, when she accompanied her fiancé's son home on a Head Start school bus. Out of the blue, the boy turned to her and brought up their weekend. "The weirdest thing happened this weekend," he told Pierce. He explained how his father had invited a woman and her children over for a picnic. He pointed out that the kids barely played football. "It was more like him and her, and Dad kept tackling her, and she was giggling," he added.
Certain that a boundary had been crossed, Pierce called her fiancé at his job the moment she reached home. She asked him what was going on. However, her partner offered no reassurance and denied everything. "We'll talk about it when I get home," he told her. For Pierce, the evasiveness was an immediate giveaway. The tense confrontation shattered the couple's upcoming wedding plans.

To make matters worse, this came at a time when Pierce had a lot on her plate already. She was not only serving her jail sentence through work release, but she also had to look after her mother, who was diagnosed with cancer. On top of that, she also found out that she was pregnant. Though the engagement dissolved immediately, the discovery marked another painful rupture during an overwhelming chapter of her life. Fortunately, Pierce walked away immediately without giving her cheating fiancé a chance, because a study by Kayla Knopp found that once a cheater is always a cheater. In fact, the research said someone who's cheated on a relationship before is twice as likely to do the same in the future.
As for the people, they praised Pierce for bringing her life back under her control. @jpmcfluffies9451 commented, "Wow, what an incredible story. God is good! Thank you, Kevin, for your platform and Polly for sharing your uplifting story." At the same time, @debbiepregil5204 noted, "Such an amazing mom. Congratulations on your 12 years, and wishing you many more."
