The bride sent her an invoice asking for payments she made for her plane tickets and hotel room for the wedding

Relationships are tied with delicate threads of trust and understanding. Sometimes it takes one little thing, one tiny lie, that violates this trust and tethers grudgeful knots in a years-long relationship. A 25-year-old woman (u/sweetandsourcum) experienced a cesspool of drama at her wedding that left her mistrusting a friend she had been with for the past 10 years. In a February 12, 2026, Reddit post, she exposed how this woman named Gemma made friendship billable, betrayed her husband’s trust, and ended up wrecking her relationships.
It began when the woman and her fiancé invited Gemma to their destination wedding in Bali, Indonesia. They were paying for the guests’ plane tickets and hotel rooms, which cost approximately $2000 and $150 to $300 each, respectively. Gemma insisted on bringing her newly wedded husband, John, along with her, but his ticket wouldn’t be paid for by the bride. On the day of the wedding, however, Gemma didn’t turn up.
When asked, Gemma replied that they used the free arrangements as an opportunity to have their own honeymoon since they couldn’t afford it otherwise. The woman asked Gemma to pay back the expenses and sent her an invoice of $2387.53, and gave her 30 days to fulfil it, or else she would have to proceed with legal action.

Just when the woman thought that it couldn’t get worse, Gemma did something that left her shocked. She sent her a 3-page audit report for every little thing she had invested in her since 2015, including her time, attention, and physical labor. Gemma itemized lunches and dinners, birthday gifts she ever gave, car fuel she used to drive to her house, and even the emotional distress and physical effort she endured for her. After tabulating these items, she sent the woman an invoice totaling $2,412.09, according to which she owed $24.56 to Gemma.
The other day, the woman was browsing the Instagram of the photographer who took her wedding photos in Bali. That’s where she noticed Gemma’s Bali photos, not with John but with another man, including one in the hotel room that she had paid for, as part of her wedding. Gemma had clearly lied to her. Gemma wasn't having her honeymoon, but rather loitering around with a man in a side affair. The woman took the matter to court.
On the day of the hearing, she easily won the case and got her money back. Meanwhile, Gemma took to Instagram to spread hate vibes against her. In one stroke of revenge, the woman posted the photo of Gemma with that other man and tagged John. Gemma’s mask cracked open in public, and she was left furious.

While weddings are deemed special in a bride’s life, a staggering 84% report them as one of the biggest stressors, according to a survey by Lifestyle Daily. Nearly 45% of these brides identified guest arrangements as being the primary stressor. On top of this stress, the woman experienced betrayal of her trust by a close friend. Trust is essential for a friendship. But like this woman, many get stabbed in the back. A study published in the Journal of Community & Applied Social Psychology documented over 900 betrayal narratives and reported that 27% of betrayals involved a close friend. The most common behavioral response to these betrayals was to completely cut ties with the betraying friend.

Most Reddit readers were just as shocked after reading about Gemma’s insane acts. They assured the woman that she did the right thing in thinking that she should sue her. u/heislivingthedream commented, “This woman sounds like a real piece of work. Would I actually sue? Probably not. A lot of hassle and you might not win. At least you can have her out of your life now.” u/Original_Pythonette said, “She's not your friend. Friends don't keep score over time like that. I hope you prevail in your suit."
