Ione Martin regrets ignoring her gut, but the boundary she stood by saved her from a bigger mess
Pre-wedding jitters are common, but at times, they are just subtle signs of something bigger. Ione Martin (@ione.and.wells), a female trucker and content creator, got extremely personal on social media and shared something she had never done before. Right before she walked down the aisle, her gut feeling told her to call off the wedding, but she still went ahead and said, 'I do.' However, a month later, she realized that one boundary she set after marriage saved her from committing an even bigger mistake. The post was shared on August 17, 2026, and it has since received over 150,000 views on her Instagram page.
Wedding bombshell
Ione Martin said she does not usually talk about her marriage online. However, after hearing Ashe's song 'Stop the Wedding' on TikTok, she felt the need to share her side. She wrote, "I don’t talk about this as much anymore, but it still affects me... I thought about calling it off on the wedding day." Right after the ceremony ended, Martin's stomach dropped because the moment she and her new wife had some alone time, she admitted to having cheated on her with another female. "The first thing she talked about was how she was texting the woman I highly suspected (and later confirmed) she was cheating with just minutes before the ceremony," Martin recalled.
A lucky escape
Thankfully, Martin had not signed the official wedding papers, which made the situation a little less stressful. She explained, "I said I wanted to wait until the trust was built back before things were legally finalized." Her ex-wife also pretended to respect her boundary. However, their relationship just got worse with time. In her post, Martin admitted she's proud to have set that boundary for herself. Now, since Martin and her ex-wife were not married on paper, she did not have to go through a divorce, only a month later.
With time, Martin learned to forgive herself for ignoring her gut and going through the wedding. She wished she had walked out the moment her ex told her about the other woman. In fact, Martin said she knew she'd have friends and family who would have supported her, but she still chose to give her relationship another chance despite all red flags. She concluded her post with advice for everyone out there doubting whether to take the big leap: "Stop the wedding or divorce or just know when to say when as soon as possible."
When 'I do' feels iffy
Premarital doubts are common, and a survey by Justin A Lavner found that it is far more common than we think. In fact, out of 464 newly married couples, two-thirds had doubts about the wedding. Over the course of four years, the study also found that women who were uncertain about getting married were more likely to divorce their partners compared to women without doubts. Similarly, a poll conducted by One Poll for US Today Blueprint (reported by StudyFinds) found that 20% of Americans who got married between 2021 and 2024 confessed they got cold feet and almost called off the wedding.

The comment section was filled with people supportive of Martin's journey.
