He was ecstatic that she finally understood his feelings for her

Sometimes, the people around you notice the chemistry long before you do. On March 17, 2026, Dr. Kia Conerway (@drkiaconerway) responded to a post on Threads, sharing a leap of faith that completely changed her life. Henry, her friend whom she had known for about 16 years, asked her to pray that his ailing mom would be able to meet his future wife. Overwhelmed, Conerway approached her pastor so they could pray together for his mom. But it seemed as if the pastor already had an answer for her. In fact, his timely intervention changed Conerway's and her friend's lives forever, making them believe in destiny all over again. Her story has received over 7,000 likes on her page.
Conerway wanted to honor her long-time friend's request and went to her pastor to pray. Instead of sitting down and praying together, her pastor told her, "You… need to meet his mom and quickly." Following his advice, Conerway immediately called Henry to confirm if he wanted her to meet his mother. Her 'friend' was ecstatic that she finally understood his feelings for her and said, "I was hoping you would figure it out." They were already falling for each other, but were too scared to confess their feelings until that moment.
The very next day, Conerway shared that she met Henry's mom on a Zoom meeting. Impressed by her, the ailing mom said, "You’re such a lovely young woman. I would introduce you to my son, but he is about to marry a girl named Kia from Memphis." It took her a second to realize that Henry's mom was talking about her. Gradually, Conerway and her future mother-in-law formed a strong bond and enjoyed each other's company. Amidst a growing connection, Henry's mother's health started to decline. Conerway shared, "When we found out you were being moved to hospice, I knew your being at the wedding was important. You had to be there. So, I planned a wedding by myself in less than 60 days to make sure you saw your prayer answered. Your son was married. You got to dance, you were aware, and you looked gorgeous." 4 months after their wedding, her mother-in-law passed away. Conerway wrote an Instagram tribute post, "Even in sickness, you were gracious, classy, regal, intelligent, witty, compassionate, nurturing & selfless. I wish I could have had you in my life longer."
Kia and Henry began their relationship as platonic friends, but their attraction grew to a point where they could no longer dismiss their feelings. A Monmouth University Poll conducted among 801 adults who were romantically involved found that 83% see their partners as their best friends. This notion is higher among married couples (88% vs. 72%). Emphasizing the importance of friendship in a romantic relationship, Dr. Gary Lewandowski, professor and chair of psychology at Monmouth University, said, "Considering your romantic partner to be your best friend is an important component of quality relationships. In fact, when researchers asked couples who have been married over 15 years why their relationship lasted, the top reason was that their partner is their best friend."
Meanwhile, people were touched by the nature of Conerway's story, a combination of kismet and divine intervention. For instance, @zanyerrr asked, "Is this a movie plot? Cause this sounds movie-ish. I ain’t know sh*t like this happens in the real world." Overwhelmed by the story, @thenewadventuresofsands shared, "When my dad was dying, my boyfriend told him he wanted to marry me. We’d been dating for a little over a year. My mom said my dad was so happy to know I’d be alright. He took another year to ask. We’ve been married now for almost 8 years. My dad died less than a month after that conversation."
