Her date asked what she would 'offer' if he paid for dinner at Texas Roadhouse — before they even ordered. She paid $17, tipped $40 and left

How someone acts on a first date tells you everything you need to know. So when 30-year-old nurse Les (@caldo.de.les) met her date at Texas Roadhouse, the red flags went up fast. He bragged about his truck, then judged her Camry. However, the breaking point arrived over a basket of cheese fries and a Dr Pepper. He pointed at the food, smirked, and asked what she had to "offer" him in exchange for paying the bill. She knew right then what was up. Without saying another word, she walked out. Later, she narrated the entire story on TikTok on August 8, 2026, amassing more than 24,500 likes.

Constant begging and low expectations

Before the evening even began, the man spent days pleading for a chance to take Les out. "Please let me take you out," he insisted over countless messages. He kept complimenting her, prompting her to give in, and she finally agreed to meet him later that day at 6:00 PM at a local Texas Roadhouse. Les emphasized that she wasn't asking for luxury and just wanted to enjoy a casual dinner. However, the man immediately set a strange, interrogative tone the moment they sat. Looking around the dining room, he broke the ice by asking what she assumed was the credit score of everyone inside.

Money talks, followed by insults

The table banter swiftly devolved into a series of arrogant financial flexes. After probing into her personal assets, the man openly judged Les' 2023 Toyota Camry. "Well, I guess that's not bad," he remarked dismissively. He then pivoted to his own pickup truck and his plans to build a fortune. As if that wasn't enough, his focus then turned to Les' job as a nurse, lecturing her that she needed to be more grateful. To make matters worse, he implied she was broke by claiming he deliberately chose the venue because he assumed it was "in your budget."

'What can you offer?'

As the man worked through four alcoholic drinks, he grew irritated that she stuck to just soft drinks because of her driving duties as a mother. Yet the breaking point came before their entrees were even ordered. Gesturing toward her Dr Pepper and a shared plate of loaded cheese fries, he bluntly inquired what she planned to give him in return. "What can you do for me?" he asked with an unsettling grin. "What can you offer in exchange for this?" Les instantly shut down the transactional proposition, making it clear she wasn't entertaining him.

The second the man stood up to visit the restroom, she seized her chance to escape the table. Les headed straight to their server, who knowingly admitted she was merely waiting to see whether she'd bolt or endure the ordeal. Refusing to let him cover the meal, Les offered to pay off the entire $17 appetizer tab, handed the waitress a generous $40 tip, and slipped into the parking lot. Following this, she permanently blocked the man and headed for some shopping.

Talking money gives the 'ick'

As it turns out, Les isn't the only person who doesn't want to hear their date brag about their money. According to a Zelle survey, 47% of people don't like when their date talks about their income. Additionally, 46% of people also don't like when their companion makes a big deal about paying the check. In contrast, 56% of Americans appreciate when the other person is thoughtful with money, with another 54% feeling that being honest and transparent about their financial situation is a green flag out and out.

As for the people, they loved how Les handled the situation. @livinghappywithacat noted, "Normalize getting up and walking out at the FIRST red flag." At the same time, @lacollision pointed out, "The nursing wage thing is straight up misogyny. It’s the only women-dominated field with consistently high wages, and some men reallyyyy hate it."
