No one would have predicted the rollercoaster this date was.

It can be a challenge to figure out the right way to initiate a conversation on a dating app like Bumble. Coming up with a good topic is truly an art, and a woman named Ketaki (@ketaki.93) honestly aced it without even realizing it. Sharing in a post, the woman matched with a man named Matthew and texted to ask what his name was. In return, she received a nearly 2-minute-long voice note with the most unhinged and goofy conversation. Right from jokes and songs to flirting, you name it, and everything was included by this dude, and the internet is having a ball with this one.
The woman wrote a simple text asking, “Is it Matthew, Matty, or Matt?” Her response was a voice note that she will ideally remember for a long time. He began by giving a pronunciation of his name — a completely random, bizarre sound close to some animal that we just haven’t figured out yet. He went on to ask Ketaki about her pronunciation. “Is it Ketaki-i-i-” he went on, turning a simple name into a sing-song tune, going completely off-pitch and going into humming. He then very charmingly went into a flirty tone and said, “It’s been a busy day, getting back to you at 4 am…burning the midnight oil. Sh*t, look what I do for us.”
We don’t know what he was up to but he was going all out with no regrets. The man went on to explain how he imagined himself getting into a fight with Ketaki, but out of love. “I want to see you get mad at me and raise that little voice,” he said. He took up a random topic to speak about and went off on it for the next minute — an unscripted monologue that undoubtedly left Ketaki laughing. Seconds before his audio could end, he got completely nonchalant and asked, “Anyways, how was your day?” Communication, goofy, personality, 10/10. And it’s ideally what prompted Ketaki to continue the conversation.
The woman shared in another video that she played along with his monologue, adding one of her own as a response. What followed was a good exchange of 4-5 voice notes each. In her caption, Ketaki summarized it saying, “Yes, unfortunately, this worked on me, I am a mere mortal.” In yet another clip, the woman revealed that she finally went out on a date with Matthew. “It was the most chaotic date I’ve been on,” she remarked. It began with the bar they were meant to go to being shut, and so they went to another place where Matthew’s first request to Ketaki was, “Give me a twirl, I wanna see your fit.”
That worked for Ketaki and what followed was a “weird” atmosphere where the woman felt like she experienced an “entire relationship with this man in a span of 5-8 hours.” The one con she noted was that the man seemed to have a superiority complex. In her next update, she revealed that as the date continued, this con got the better of him to a point where things just didn’t work out, so though it was great in the beginning, it ultimately ended after the first date itself. First dates can be pretty interesting, but what matters is the person over everything else.
Data from YouGov revealed that Americans don’t go on first dates as much as they’d like to. Between 8 and 31% of U.S. adults noted that they have not tried first dates like going to a restaurant, playing a sport, catching a show, or doing a chore together but would like to. 11% revealed they have never been on a first date at all. Only 25% of the U.S. adult population has been on three or fewer first dates. In a study by the University of Georgia, it was revealed that it’s not so much the place or type of date but rather the person and the bonding and conversation that determine how well the date will turn out.

It was noted that even though people who went on first dates weren’t quite happy with the place, many were still able to enjoy their time together because of the conversations and connections shared. In Ketaki’s case, it was similar in the beginning but as she got to know more about the man, she realized there was a red flag there. But that voice note — classic stuff. @momosblog_ said, “He introduced you to him and all his personalities. Consider yourself lucky.” @brittmoreno_ added, “2-minute voice memo at 4 am is crazy work.”
