Tipping is a matter of choice and is a way of appreciating and complementing the server. As simple as this process can be, customers often make it dramatic and problematic. A server Quin Pratt, shared his experience, revealing that a customer was willing to tip him but was playing games and he wasn’t up for it. “I was at work, doing my job, being a server and at one of my tables there was this YouTuber or TikToker and they pulled out their phone and started recording and called me over because they set up some game for my tip,” Pratt explained. He then said, “They set up a few envelopes on the table and said, ‘One of these is going to be your tip.’”

Pratt explained that each envelope contained between $1 and $300 and that he had to pick an envelope. He mentioned that he could keep the envelope or choose to exchange it based on a hunch. “I looked the guy right in the eyes and said, ‘Dude, I ain’t got time for this bullshit, I’m super busy. Whatever you leave me as a tip, is my tip, I’m not here to play your little game with you,” Pratt said. He added more saying, “I’m at my place of employment, not here to play some carnival game that you’ve devised and put together to get some views and likes on TikTok.” Pratt was agitated and made the person consider that he wouldn’t have gone to his workplace and distracted him for a game as such.

“Don’t do it to me or other servers. I’m not here as entertainment for your channel,” he remarked. The customer retaliated, “Woah, I’m giving you a chance to earn $300.” However, Pratt was bent on the fact that the customer was “using him to add to his channel.” Pratt pointed out, “Surprise surprise, he didn’t leave a tip after he left." Sharing a message towards the end of the video, he explained, “If you want to bless a server for their work or because they’re underpaid, just do it. Don’t make a stupid game out of it, trying to further your channel. If you try to do that, it’s very obvious that it’s self-serving.” He concluded, “You want to film yourself giving a huge tip, that’s awesome but don’t make servers jump through hoops and games like we’re your trained little monkeys just to get a tip.”

People were divided on Pratt’s reaction and while some people thought it was just a simple thing he could have played along with, others found it disrespectful. @crypto.dad said, “You should have taken one and walked away leaving him in suspense.” @unclebigff851 said, “Why so sour? You should have just taken an envelope, a dollar is better than none.” @lucycook1989 remarked, “Really demeaning- Glad you spoke up.” @crimewithlaboricua wrote, “I will never understand the need to record when you do something nice. Just do it!” @sleeplessny wrote, “That game was degrading.” @experimentmagnus, “I would just take one and say nothing.”
