Server recounts how she took the high road when a customer 'humbled' her by criticizing her service

Working as a server can be a challenging job, especially for newcomers who are still learning the ropes. Even servers with many years of experience get occasional reminders that they are not doing a good job. A woman on TikTok (@savkaypierce), who works as a waitress, recently shared a video about how a customer "humbled" her.

The video has gained 2.3 million views and 4307 comments on the social media site. It is captioned, "The woman was *almost* too stunned to speak." She begins the video by sharing that she was serving a table of four people when the oldest woman at the table called her to it. The woman admits, "I was not doing my best. I was not doing a bad job." The customer looked her straight in the eye and told her that she was doing a "terrible job."

The woman laughs while recounting this part of the story, amused by the woman's brutal honesty. She tried to make amends and asked the woman at the table, "Is there anything else I can bring you to help get this moving in the right direction?" The customer hilariously replied that she was "afraid to ask." The woman laughs and remarks about how the customer was speaking the truth.

The customer then began listing out all the things that she was doing incorrectly. Upon hearing her complaints, the woman decided to take a more proactive approach to serving the table and tried to be on her "best behavior." She says, "I am begging for forgiveness from this woman and to be honest, I didn't think I was that bad." After some time, the table is done eating and the waitress takes the bill to the table.

She then looked directly at the old lady and said, "I want to thank you all so much for giving me the opportunity to learn and grow as a server tonight; it was a pleasure to serve you. Y'all get home safe." The woman expected that the lady customer would change her opinion about her service with these statements, but that was sadly not the case. But she retained a positive perspective about the whole thing and took the lady's criticism nicely. She concluded the video by sarcastically remarking, "I love the restaurant life. It is so fun."
