She shared a throwback photo of herself as a child on Instagram, encouraging her younger self not to be afraid to ask for help.
Selena Gomez shared a touching message with her followers on Wednesday, March 8, along with a cute throwback photo of her younger self. In the photo, a young Gomez can be seen smiling for a school picture. Gomez wrote a heartfelt note to her younger self in the caption, encouraging her to not be afraid to ask for help. She wrote, "Dear younger me, please don't be afraid to ask for help." The 30-year-old pop star's message came as a reminder to everyone to reflect on their past experiences and to be kind and compassionate with themselves. She also urged her fans to take a moment to think about their own lives and to reach out for help if they need it, just like she wished she had done when she was younger, as reported by People Magazine.
The singer and beauty entrepreneur is known for being vulnerable and open about her mental health and her struggles with Lupus. She further added in the caption, "Today is International Women's Day, and I want each of us to be gentler to ourselves. Write your younger self a @RareBeauty #rarereminder and stick it on your mirror to remind yourself that you deserve the world. Love you." Gomez had more than one message for her younger self and conveyed it through an Instagram video posted on her beauty brand, Rare Beauty's Instagram account on Wednesday. The video contained various positive affirmations.
She said, "Something I wish I could tell my younger self is: Appreciate the face and the body that you have. May not look like everyone else but you are who you are and be proud of that." In a white tank top and gold hoop earrings, Selena Gomez appeared on camera with minimal makeup, sporting glossy lips and wispy eyelashes. Her encouraging messages to her younger self were shared after a hiatus from social media, which was attributed to rumors of drama between herself, Hailey Bieber, and Kylie Jenner.
Fans shared a TikTok Live clip on Twitter, in which the "Lose You To Love Me" singer expressed that she would be taking a break from social media as she felt that it was "a little silly." Gomez, who is 30 years old, said that she loves her fans and would see them "sooner than later." The singer has previously had a difficult relationship with social media, having taken multiple breaks from Instagram over the years. In 2019, she revealed that she no longer had the app due to negative comments on her posts that made her feel "depressed."

Last month, Selena Gomez spoke with Vanity Fair about her experience with social media throughout the years. In the interview, she discussed her preference for TikTok at the moment and shed light on why she finds the need to take breaks from social media. She said, "People can call me ugly or stupid and I'm like, whatever. But these people get detailed. They write paragraphs that are so specific and mean. I would constantly be crying. I constantly had anxiety…I couldn't do it anymore. It was a waste of my time."
"The only thing I have on my phone is TikTok because I find it to be a little less hostile. There are wonderful things about social media—connecting with fans, seeing how happy and excited they are and their stories," she recalled. "But usually that's filtered through [for me now]. I created a system. Everything I do I send to my assistant who posts them. As far as comments, my team will put together a few things that are encouraging."
