The person believes Americans should look beyond their own country and pay attention to the situations others are facing.
It's common for people to criticize their own country, whether it's about the government, the economy, or the culture. However, some forget that others may face even greater challenges. A Russian Gen Z Reddit user, u/Impossible-Quiet392, feels that Americans are too focused on their country's flaws, while there are places in the world dealing with far worse. This sparked mixed reactions online.
"I'm not American but like seriously, just put your head outside of your country. You don't have drug lords controlling your government and raging war against each other," the post began. "You don't have starvation or constant coups, you don't have war with an enemy which literally would destroy every bit of sovereignty and freedom you have and steal your washing machine," the person pointed out. "You don't have a one-person cult and total dictatorship and you DON'T HAVE AUSTRALIAN SPIDERS," they exclaimed. According to them, people in America pretty much have decent lives when all of these things are accounted for.
"Your country isn't f****d up, you have pretty decent lives. Of course, everything could be much better but 'everything is f****d' is just straight out doom posting and doom sayings," the person detailed through their post. While some people in the comments agreed that neither the doom posting nor the over-glorification of the country was true, other people felt that just because some people have it worse doesn't mean they have no right to criticize their own situation.
u/churadley commented, "While I recognize acknowledging our privilege, the notion of not being able to complain because other countries have it worse is dumb. For example, if your ship has 11 holes in it and your neighbor's ship has 20 holes in it, that doesn't keep our boat from going down. While we're fortunate in many ways, there are still systemic issues that need to be addressed here." u/0LTakingLs remarked, "Really no excuse to be complaining about being stuck in the same place. The USA is the most geographically, ethnically, and culturally diverse country on earth, you can move somewhere within it and feel like you’re in a new world."

Moved from Texas to Minnesota a couple of years ago. Rough at first but now we're thriving like never before. I agree with another poster, fear of the unknown is the main reason. Everything else is just excuses. America truly is what we make of it, it's sad that a 1/3rd of us want to make it into an authoritarian shithole, but I believe in our country and we'll get through it one way or another." u/BrassMonkey-NotAFed shared, "I love the concept of America, but the current execution of that concept is fractured and only benefiting a small portion of the population." u/joeyrog88 expressed, "I think the hard part with the USA is that the bootlickers and the doomers are the same people."
