Rowing club finds a single rose along with mysterious note by the lake. It contained a heartbreaking request

The note was left by a wheelchair-bound widow on the entrance gate, along with a red rose that she wanted thrown into the lake but couldn't.

Even when death takes a loved one away, it can't erase the love they shared. As one person dies and the other is left in grief, the bond between them remains as a quiet sadness that lingers in the ashes of those who have passed. One widow in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, visited the lake to place a rose on her husband's ashes. It was unfortunate that her disability prevented her from walking to the lake to place the rose in the water. Fortunately, a local rowing club, Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School Rowing Club (@BVGSRowing), spotted her red rose lying on the entrance gate at the lakeside, along with a note requesting that the reader toss the flower into the lake.

“This note was left on the gate at the water this afternoon. No name or number was left. But whoever you are, rest assured your rose is in place in the middle of the lake,” the club wrote in the tweet. They also posted a screengrab of her handwritten note, which read, “Please can someone throw this into the lake for me? My late husband’s ashes are in the lake, and I can’t get to the lakeside in my wheelchair anymore, and the gates are locked – I have to drive back up north tonight. Thank you x.” The tweet also included a second photograph showing a red rose floating on the lake, indicating that the flower was indeed sent to the requested location

Since then, the heartbreaking tweet has garnered more than 140,000 likes and 43,000 retweets, with thousands of people across the globe praying that the woman got to know that her red rose had reached her husband in the afterlife. “I hope the woman sees this,” wrote @1rorycowan. @nyc_atm said, “I hope that this woman knows that her message went viral and is being appreciated in the United States.  Love, condolences, and many thanks to the people who shared this bit of humanity.  We are better people for sharing this.”

The story left many people in tears. Addressing the rowing club, @jemmaster suggested, “[It would] be great if you guys manage to contact this lady and can arrange to bring her out in a boat so she can place a rose herself.” Others praised the club for their kindness towards the lady. “I have just noticed this. Thank you to the folks who made this wish come true. A simple gesture can mean so much,” wrote @traceyannashto2. @thattickster73 said, “That deserves 'the you are awesome' trophy.”

Elsewhere, a widow named Margaret McCollum made headlines after some people noticed that she had been coming to a local train station for nearly two decades to honor her late husband. Her husband, Laurence, was one of the candidates whose voice could be heard in the "Mind the gap" message on subways. Sitting there and listening to his voice made McCollum feel at home. “Since he died, I would sit and wait for the next train until I heard his voice,” she said.
