When Cassandra (@sannixsanni) spotted a couple getting engaged outside the Philadelphia Museum of Art, she couldn't resist taking a few photos of the moment. She didn't know the pair, so on September 6, 2026, she posted the pictures and a short clip on Threads in the hope that social media would help them find their way to the newly engaged couple. It worked — but not in the way Cassandra expected. As the post gained millions of views, a woman claiming to be the man's wife appeared in the comments with an allegation that completely changed how people saw the proposal.
An innocent snapshot shared
The entire ordeal unfolded one afternoon outside the Philadelphia Art Museum when Cassandra was enjoying a walk with her 2-year-old child. It was at that moment that she noticed a couple on the grass enjoying lunch. From afar, it seemed like the perfect setting for a date, as it had a nice table, chairs with white cloth over them, and even wine. The cherry on top was that this elaborate setup was for a proposal, which Cassandra witnessed. "I was so honored to witness this beautiful moment between this couple," she later wrote. She decided to capture this moment for the couple and later share it with them through social media, which she did. But she didn't know what was coming next.
A wife's stunning discovery
What started as a wholesome moment captured by a stranger took a sharp turn when a woman named Bella Rivera (@bellarivera5488) commented on the post. She revealed that she instantly recognized the man as her spouse. Then Rivera proceeded to call out the public celebration, which apparently contained the same decor that he used to propose to Rivera. "Proposing while still married and using the decor from our wedding is diabolical. Please sign the divorce papers," she wrote. Rivera also shared photographs that she said showed her with the same man seen in Cassandra's post.
Unmasking the double life
This was just the beginning, as Rivera then began unmasking the man's alleged double life. She claimed that she fell for his "charismatic" personality and "love bombing." Moreover, she stated that she is still legally married to him despite leaving him in March 2026. But the biggest blow perhaps came when she warned the other woman that she could be the man's next victim. She hoped that the woman had friends and family who would give her proper advice and save her from the abuse. Not just that, Rivera also noted that one of his relatives even insisted she sign her rights away because the man was dying just a few weeks prior.
Divorces and remarriage
While the circumstances surrounding the viral proposal remain disputed, remarriage after divorce is common in the United States. According to a 2025 Pew Research analysis of federal data, about two-thirds — 66% — of Americans who have ever divorced have subsequently remarried. Among people who have divorced and are currently remarried, 46% have had a biological child with their current spouse. The viral dispute, however, centered on Rivera's claim that her current marriage had not yet legally ended when the proposal took place.

As for the people, they were thanking Rivera for exposing this man and even potentially saving this woman from the pain. @queen.v_x3 noted, "He’s still legally married and a woman abuser and has a perc addiction; don’t be fooled, boo." Meanwhile, @minkrenaissance commented, "My divorce was finalized while my ex was running from being served and proposing to his new fiancée with my stolen wedding ring.
