In a story posted by u/IseeWhereILook on Reddit, he details how a rich young man slashed his tires over a parking dispute and spent two years trying to wriggle out of accountability, until the courts forced him to pay. The post, which has gained 16k upvotes since being shared on August 24, began when the user parked in the last available space of a lot with his wife and kids. A BMW had already nosed into the spot ahead, leaving little room beside it. "I carefully drove in and parked, about 3 cm (a little over 1 foot) from the other car. I had to get out of mine through the passenger side," he wrote. When they returned, the BMW was gone, but two of his tires were flat.

He immediately called the attendant and her manager, who promised to send a mechanic, but while waiting, he also filed a police complaint to access the security footage. "They wouldn’t give me the video without an official police complaint, so I made one, and the manager then had me contact their legal department to take it from there," he explained. The process dragged on for nearly three months, and when the police finally got the footage, it showed the BMW’s driver clearly deflating his tires before driving off.

Soon, lawyers began calling on behalf of the young man’s wealthy father. "A week later, I get a call from daddy’s lawyer offering me a few thousand soles to 'forget about this,'" he wrote. But he refused every offer and kept amending the documentation to show that repeated attempts at arbitration had been made. Almost a year later, the case finally went to trial, and the BMW driver, Martín, appeared with his father and their lawyer, while the user stood firm with his. The video clearly showed that Martín inspected the car, made angry gestures, and deliberately deflated both tires.

The judge convicted Martín of vandalism, ordered him to pay a fine of around $1,700, and sentenced him to 90 days of home arrest. "They appealed, but this was thrown out a few weeks ago, and just last week I got the news that the verdict is now final," he shared. The payment deadline was set for October 10, with the threat of jail time if missed. "So Martín, I don’t know if you use Reddit or not, but enjoy your home arrest, and too bad your University doesn’t accept home arrest as a valid excuse, and you’ll lose all credits this cycle," he wrote. "Maybe think about that next time you want to screw with someone else’s stuff."

Studies have shown that kids raised in wealthy families sometimes develop a strong sense of entitlement, which can lead to selfish or even antisocial behavior. A research paper published in Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Clinics notes that affluence can shield teens from accountability, reinforcing the idea that rules don’t apply to them. The author, Elizabeth M Alderman, writes, "Participation in delinquent behaviors may be due to boredom with the affluent lifestyle, and such behavior may not be punished since youth from affluent families are often shielded from proper discipline by law enforcement authorities." Martín’s reliance on his father’s lawyers and money to cover for his actions fit that pattern almost perfectly.

The post has generated strong responses from Reddit users, many of whom relished the outcome. u/Virtual-Squirrel-725 wrote, "The best part of this story is you know this guy has done similar things many times and always squirmed out of it with Daddy’s help." u/Weltall8000 commented, "Gotta say, it is refreshing to see someone turn down the settlement and go through with court to nail someone that intentionally broke the law to harm others and usually can get away with it." u/hrdrmtbkr added, "Good on you for not taking any of the arbitration offers and letting the wheels of justice slowly turn. And losing the credits for classes was the best."
