She even gave the restaurant owner the 'stink eye' every time she saw him
There's a reason why restaurants have different menus at different times of the day. u/Poly_Olly_Oxen_Free owns a restaurant and worked in the kitchen three days a week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. On one Sunday, around 3:45 p.m., an elderly couple came in and asked for brunch items. When they were told they were too late, she shoved her phone in the author's face to show him his own menu. When he responded the same way, she huffed and puffed, went back to the car, while her husband enjoyed a full meal. The author explained that his lunch menu was from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dinner was from 3 p.m., but customers could order the early bird special from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Full dinner prices started at 6:01 p.m. As for brunch, it was the same timing as the lunch menu. On one Sunday, the author took a lunch break since there were only three couples in the restaurant. Around 3:45 p.m., an elderly couple walked in. They asked the server for brunch items, but were told that brunch ended at 3 p.m. As expected, they asked for the manager. The Front of House (FoH) manager talked to them and explained the same, but they refused to listen. "They want eggs Benedict and French toast, they want mimosas," the author recalled.

Frustrated, the FoH asked the author to speak to them. The moment he got to their table, the woman shoved her phone in his face. He calmly explained that they missed the brunch window, but she yelled at him and shoved her phone in his face again. Annoyed, the author took out his own phone, opened the same page, and zoomed in on the brunch hours. "I showed her my screen and asked if hers said something different," he wrote. She asked him to make an exception, but he refused. He said, "Honestly, I could have made her the f**king egg benny and some French toast. We technically could have served her mimosas. But her attitude was not going to be rewarded that day."
The author told her to order from the early bird menu or the dinner menu. Otherwise, she could leave. Her husband ended up ordering "a 22oz Porterhouse steak, a 22oz beer, and 2 large sides for $22," but she only got a coffee. She even gave the author the "stink eye" every time she saw him. When her husband ordered a Crème brûlée for dessert, she got up, annoyed, and went to sit inside the car. The husband also got two of their rock candies to go and left them a 24% tip even though their "menus clearly state that we pay our employees a living wage, and tips are not required/expected."

Restaurant workers know that dealing with rude customers is part of the job, but that does not make it okay for them to be yelled at and abused. In June 2026, HALOS released a report from a recent study and found that 42% of respondents experienced customer aggression at work during the past month. 40% said that customer aggression had increased since the previous year. The 2025 National Customer Rage Study revealed that 50% of customers admitted they raised their voice to express their displeasure, which was at a record high.

Readers commented on how rude the woman was, but the majority wanted to know where they could get the entire meal at just $22 in this economy. u/WellsHansen wrote, "Give me 'The Twos'! A 22oz Porterhouse steak, a 22oz beer, and 2 large sides for $22, you say? That sounds fantastic! If this were my neighborhood, you would see me there." u/Accomplished-Two3577 added, "Uh, The Twos prices would have been great in the seventies, where in the world could you get that today?"
