Anyone looking for a job might know the current state of the job market. Many job seekers have to face unrealistic expectations from companies to find the best possible opportunity. Similarly, a man named Patrick Mazuca–who goes by @patrickmazuca on TikTok–was asked to have 15 years of experience in Instagram and TikTok management to receive the upper band of salary for the role. The millennial social media manager took to the platform to share the bizarre expectations of the company and why they would never find the "right candidate."

"If anyone's interested in the current state of the job market, let me explain to you a little social interaction I had yesterday," Mazuca began. "A recruiter reached out to me with a role that was helping a small company manage their Instagram and TikTok account." He went on, "She went over all my qualifications and all of those things and then she explained to me the salary band." The man explained, "For those of you who don't know what a salary band is, it's kind of like the minimum and the maximum that a recruiter can promise a new hire or new applicator. Like where your salary will fall within depending on a variety of things." He shared that the lower band of the salary was what he was currently making.

"The upper end was $20k more. And when I told her that I would need to be on the upper end of that salary band in order to make the move, she explained to me, well, that wouldn't happen. And I was, like, why?" Mazuca revealed. "And she's like, well, we would need someone with 15 years of experience in Instagram and TikTok in order for them to get the upper end of that salary band. And I responded: 15 years of Instagram and TikTok? And she said yes." Mazuca expressed that he might not be the right person for the company. "I do not have that amount of experience and best of luck to you." He continued, "We hung up and it was cordial. They are not gonna find anyone with that amount of experience because Instagram is 14 years old and TikTok is 8 years old."

"So those people don't exist. So, classically, everyone wants everything and the impossible on a shoestring and never forget that," the millennial pointed out. The caption read, "If you are my coworker and see this, I am not leaving. I just took the call 'cause the company looked cool." The video received over 669k views and nearly 73k likes. People in the comments expressed their thoughts and shared their own experiences.

@emeblakeley wrote, "Also, they know that. They posted a salary band larger than what they are willing to pay to make the job look good, but made the upper end unattainable on purpose." @onthatthought commented, "Also, both platforms are wildly different landscapes than when they were new. Being up-to-date is way more important." @emeblakely remarked, "Social media marketing is even younger than the apps themselves. Nobody did ads on Instagram when it first came out." @spammynrice shared, "I have a theory that these companies are saying they want these years of experiences because that implies those people are older and not in a certain…demographic of young people."
