The world has come very far in terms of gender equality. However, people are still choosing to turn a blind eye to the LGBTQIA+ community. People still mistake queer couples as friends, siblings, cousins or roommates. They have not developed the lens to view love and relationships through a queer lens. So, when this couple checked in to a hotel expecting a queen bed they had booked, they were surprised to see that they were "upgraded." Alexa—who goes by @alexasearthh on TikTok—shared a hilarious yet significant incident that happened while she was travelling with her partner.

They had booked a queen room in a hotel but the hotel receptionist mistook them as friends and gave them a twin room instead. "But the receptionist sees you're two girls when you check in and 'upgrades' you to a room with two single beds," the text overlay reads. Despite the unfavorable mix-up due to the receptionist's assumption, the couple seemed to be laughing at the situation. Having received a few comments asking why they agreed to the "upgrade," Alexa responded, "Sometimes you don’t have the capacity and/or are willing to come out to just any man and deal with questions." With over 2.7 million views, this video resonated with many on the platform.

"My wife and I went on our honeymoon in Spain and the receptionist was so apologetic as she gave us a room with one bed despite that being what I booked," commented @caitlinm24. "A receptionist told me we were too young to sleep in the same bed and gave us single adjoining rooms instead. We were 23 and 21 years old," wrote @vikkiheardmedicine. "Push the beds together and create a mega bed," suggested @ingarid_. "They always think they’re doing you the biggest favor too," commented @lightblueoakleys.

In a stitch with Alexa's video, queer wedding photographer Violet Cristina Photo shared a similar incident where a newlywed queer couple was assumed to be brides from two different weddings. The photographer explained that the couple decided to take a break from their wedding photoshoot and check into their hotel rooms to change into a second outfit. The two brides were in their "full-white wedding gowns" while checking in with the photographer accompanying them. "It was pretty obvious what was going on here. It was a wedding and it was their wedding," said Cristina.

Seeing the two brides, the staff asked, "Oh my God! Who got married?" So, the brides replied, "Both of us." Despite all the obvious signs, the staff couldn't understand that the brides were marrying each other. They assumed that the two brides were just co-incidentally having their weddings on the same day and exclaimed, "That's crazy. What a crazy coincidence." Cristina was in utter disbelief over how the staff were quick to jump to a conclusion and pointed out in the caption, "Needless to say, they were embarrassed when they realized their mistake." Many queer people in the comments shared instances where they and their partner were mistaken for siblings or friends.
